The 2023 MLS season is finally a wrap now that Columbus Crew has taken top honors with MLS Cup, and silly season has kicked off with trades, free agency, exchanges of Monopoly money, and treasure troves of rumors!
The North American soccer world had tons of news dropping throughout the week, and there’s none better to help bring you up to speed than the one and only Jason Longshore – Atlanta Soccer’s Godfather and radio analyst for 92.9 The Game. Jason joined the guys to talk about variety of topics, starting with his newest podcast alongside Atlanta United’s Sandy McAfee, “The History of Atlanta Soccer.”โThe podcast dives into every imaginable aspect of Atlanta’s storied, yet fractured soccer journey, from the very beginning when the sport was first introduced in the early part of the 1900’s through the Atlanta Chiefs dropping two simultaneous wins over Manchester City and onward to the present day. Go give it a listen, it’s phenomenal – and while you’re watching this episode of Scarves and Spikes, you may even get a fascinating tidbit of history from Jason about the name Atlanta United.
The crew also touched on MLS Cup and Columbus Crew’s dominant performance, recapped and analyzed the recent news and rumors – including the acquisition of goalkeeper Josh Cohen – before diving into the new 2024 MLS rule changes. They also chatted about the new U.S. Soccer headquarters that is making Fayette County, Georgia its home, and what that can mean for the growth of the sport here in Georgia and beyond.
It was an outstanding, packed episode, be sure to check it out!
