Everyone but Atlanta United had a chance to play during Matchday 3 in MLS. It’s weird, but it’s the way the schedule shook out this early in the season. Let us know in the comments which match(es) you watched.

Around MLS
-Inter Miami put a 5-spot on Orlando City. Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi had a brace each. I can’t even make fun of Orlando City — that’s painful.
-SNOW GAME. Real Salt Lake and LAFC were delayed due to thundersnow, then started, then stopped, then started again. Then RSL put up 3 1st-half goals to win 3-0. Scenes like the below are exactly what legendary keeper Hugo Lloris envisioned when he decided to come to MLS:
-Stoppage time magic for the Philadelphia Union! Again! This time it was Ale Bedoya in 90’+5 to salvage a draw at Sporting Kansas City:
-More late game magic! Nashville SC coughed up an own goal in the 47th before Teal Bunbury salvaged a point in the 90th minute from the spot:
-Josef Martinez scored! A match-winner! And CF Montréal beat FC Dallas 2-1 despite Dallas’s big-money signing Petar Musa finding the net on his MLS debut.
-Miles Robinson scored! A match winner! And FC Cincinnati beat Chicago Fire FC 2-1 to get into the win column for the first time in 2024.
-The Columbus Crew seemed destined for a 2nd-straight win to open the campaign. Then Tani Oluwaseyi happened:
-The Vancouver Whitecaps picked up their 1st point of the season behind a 1-1 home draw against Charlotte FC. That’s 4 points in 2 matches for The Crown under new head coach Dean Smith.
-Goal of the week? Lewis Morgan with a blast just inside the box to send the New York Red Bulls to a 2-1 win at Houston Dynamo FC.
-Two games, no points for NYCFC. It got doubled up by St. Louis CITY 2-0 as James Sands was sent off.
-The Portland Timbers beat the breaks off the Rapids in Phil Neville’s debut. This week, they gave up a 2-0 lead as D.C. United salvaged a 2-2 draw in Troy Lesesne’s 1st match in the technical area for the Black and Red.
-The LA Galaxy put up 3 against Cali Clasico rivals San Jose Earthquakes in a 3-1 win.
-The Seattle Sounders honored MLS great Ozzie Alonso before its match against Austin FC.
The match itself ended 0-0, but…Seattle had 22 shots to Austin’s 2, 4 SOG to Austin’s 1, and had an xG of 1.3-0.1. Things look dire for Austin in the early going.
-Just the one match on Sunday as the New England Revolution, Atlanta United’s next opponent, host Toronto FC (2 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass)

My dear Atlantistas know I like football as an art form. I don´t know if you are folowing Miami (the only thing worth following in Miami). I see Tata at work again, like he did at Atlanta. He got rid of Yedlin, and Jean Mota (bad Brazilian, it happens), and brought in Matias Rojas, another very good Paraguayan who was wasting away at Corinthians (who are a mess at the moment). And Redondo is about to start! Tata is building an Academy.
and vazquez is scoring bags of goals at monterrey. moreno had a hat trick.
it’s a good time to be “from” atlanta.
As a gremista, this game made us really miss Luisito Suarez. I knew that he would be great soon, though maybe not this soon. That first goal was perfection.
I think we all can see Tata´s work beginning to show. He replaced the defense (some guy Freire now seems a lot better than what they had), and they are moving the last weak player out, the right back, now going to Cincinnatti. They gave a master class in football, defending and countering. The difference between Miami and MLS is abyssal in finishing quality. And Redondo has not even started. I think Tata is setting up an Academy at Miami. Let´s wait, and see. (Gressel, particularly, had a huge game).
and rumor has it that tata is wanting to bring in escobar. yet the yellow/orange cards begin!
Tata has been making some great changes. I recommend you take a look at the Redondo kid. I think he has the potential to be a lawnmower solving problems around Busquets.
Dani Alves should be unavailable a lot longer, if I were the judge. I never liked Yedlin, and apparently neither did Tata. He already has names for the position, for sure. I don´t know, Atlantistas, but I do feel that Miami could become your league´s Barca in no time. When does Atlanta play again? Are you on holiday, or something?
this weekend. stupid 2 week break
the problems for miami medium to long term are
I plan on watching your game then. Learn some new names, boo Lennon, that kind of watching.
As for Miami, Tata might very much stay. Miami is North Buenos Aires, filled with Argentinians.Messi can´t be there beyond 25, and there is no one to replace him. BUT, if Miami has the chance to solidify as a Barca, they can put together a winning team, a rich brand, and this goes a long way in football. In terms of $$, they got Chase naming the stadium, Royal Caribbean in the jersey, and they will have the new stadium next year. I see potential. And MLS rules on $$ will change, that is inevitable.
i do hope mls will change the financial rules, but i just don’t think it will be any time soon. atlanta is another club that could benefit greatly from that, but we are certainly not the only one.
vamos atlanta!
Unlike the author, I can always make fun of Orlando. Miami looked good but Orlando looked absolutely terrible on both ends.
i am not a miami fan (although i am firmly in camp messi), but man do i love to see orlando get embarrassed. it just warms the heart.
Almiron subbed on for NUFC, but still looked good in their win.
