The wait is finally over. Atlanta United 2 has signed academy star left-back Dominik Chong Qui to his first professional contract through the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season.
Like several other recent academy signings, Chong Qui will begin his professional career with an MLS NEXT Pro contract before receiving an automatic promotion to an MLS Homegrown Player contract on Jan. 1, 2026. This contract will last through the 2028 MLS season, with an option for 2029.
“Dominik is a very talented player who has progressed through our development pathway at an excellent rate,” said Director of Methodology Javier Perez. “Dominik showcased his skills on both ends of the pitch this past year with Atlanta United 2 and we look forward to his continued development and success with the club during his first full season as a professional next year.”
The 16-year-old left-back debuted for ATL UTD 2 on June 30th on the road against Orlando City B and went on to log 1,128 minutes across 17 appearance (12 starts). His impactful first season with the 2s included two goals and the honor of being named MLS NEXT Player of Matchweek 18.
Chong Qui’s rapid rise began when he joined Atlanta United’s Academy in 2022, starting for the U-16 Academy team which won the 2023 MLS NEXT Cup Championship, and earning his first camp call-up with the United States U-17 squad in September 2023.
Dominik Chong Qui becomes the third left-back prospect to sign a Homegrown Player contract with Atlanta United. He is a very well-rounded prospect with incredible athleticism, strong offensive skills, and a great deal of recent improvement in his defensive performance. It remains to be seen how quickly he acclimates and rises in Atlanta United’s plans but he has everything he needs to perform at a high level for the 2s in 2025.

Good for him, bets of luck.
Atlanta just keeps on churning out LBs.
We’ve got a couple more from the ’10s age group who could be #4. Seyi Fakiyesi and Daniel Tagbo are worth remembering as they climb through the academy.
still think Bello left too early, but I guess letting Bello walk, helped Wiley run
Agreed. Bello was an important proof of concept for the entire academy system. Wiley was the direct result of that.
