Atlanta United are reportedly keen to turn to a familiar transfer partner to fill its need for a No. 9.
According to the Daily Mail’s Stephen McGowan, Atlanta have targeted Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi, who has been with the Scottish power since 2021. He signed with the Bhoys from Vissel Kobe in 2021 and eventually emerged as the team’s top scoring option when Giorgos Giakoumakis signed with Atlanta in 2023.
The Japan international, who turns 30 in January, has totaled 6g/3a through 15 league matches in 2024-25, along with a goal through 6 matches in UEFA Champions League play. In 2023-24, he recorded 14 goals in league play, a season after collecting 34 goals in 50 matches across all competitions. He has also been capped 22 times for the Samurai Blue, scoring 5 goals.
Per McGowan, Furuhashi was on Atlanta’s radar over the summer as it submitted an offer of over $12.5 million (£10 million), but Celtic were hesitant because it didn’t want to lose such an important player for its Champions League campaign. With Chris Henderson and Ronny Deila both in the fold — the latter, of course, a former Celtic manager — and Deila promising an attack-friendly approach, it now looks like Atlanta wants to give it another go.

He’d be great…Guess we shall see.
I often wonder why we don’t look at players in Asia like South Korea/Japan
Small teaser by ATLUTD around the possibility of Kyogo coming here was released this morning. Waiting to hear of any updates.
This is looking more like a no at our current bid as the weeks go by. We’ll see how the Rangers game goes today.
Hail Hail 🍀
While I think watching him and Saba being energizer bunnies would be amazing, I’m slightly worried about header chances. Watching the highlights I thought maybe him and Miranchuk flip flop at time would work…
Either way, I like Celtic being a friendly international club to be partners with (not just for the obvious reasons), but we still need a LW to help contribute to the speed and intensity.
This is comment is contingent on us playing him as a CF and not a winger just to clarify*
Not sure if fellow Bhoys on here would agree, but this move only makes sense on our end. It’s not like with GG where he’s getting a lot less play time and his stats are better than Idah, but Idah is obviously being setup as their future striker. Celtic are also better when Kyogo plays and there are other factors hurting their Champions League campaign, mainly teams are just better.
Granted if we can get Kyogo and Daizen for 25-30 mill combined, we’d be set on DPs and our attacking trio would arguably be the best in the league 😁
Oh, if only they’d let go of them both lol. Palma is too up and coming or else I’d vote for him
I know I shouldn’t get to hyped on highlights, but he would be exciting to watch. He and Saba running none stop with Miranchuk feeding him would be a hell of a show.
Looks fast, aggressive, quick thinker, good finisher. Hopefully we can get him.
Finally, a striker who makes runs to the front post! And can dribble!
