Atlanta has its team back.
That statement goes for both the city, where the Five Stripes will play for the next three weeks against NYCFC, Dallas, and New England, as well as the squad, who will return eight players from the first team from last week’s international break window.
Now going on nearly a month without a victory, Atlanta United will look to kick their three match homestand off with all three points, and what better opponent to do that against than Ronny Deila’s former MLS club? Now four years from that MLS Cup winning side, this year’s NYCFC have found good results in their last three matches, a scoreless draw against Columbus last weekend followed two consectuive 2-1 wins against the New England Revolution and Orlando City.
Atlanta’s previous week (with a sparse roster) was spared thanks to an own goal, drawing 2-2 in Cincinnati, but came at the cost of a multi-week leg injury to midfielder Tristan Muyumba. The Five Stripes will be looking to move their way up from 12th in the Eastern Conference table, making the next three home matches even more important to come away from with results. With questions starting to swirl about Atlanta’s attacking efficiency, is this the match that finally sets things straight for this team?

Lennon is just not a good defender. He’s a wing they keep thinking ca play defense for some reason. We haven’t had a good right back since Escobar. At this point I’d start Hernandez or Edward’s over Lennon. Our defense looked much better last year when Lennon was unavailable.

I am a day 1 AU fan, but it seems more each year our team is doing its best to become the “Falcons of MLS”. High talent, high salaries, high hopes… and low performance.

That’s part of the problem is that he isn’t doing any of the thing’s he’s supposed to be good at. But also on the goal, Lennon definitely could’ve/should’ve gone to that back post. He didn’t have anything else to defend or go to help the play.
