Could Atlanta United be headed for a breakout game against the struggling New England Revolution?
Although the Revs have just 3 goals to their credit through 7 matches — one of those an own goal — they’ve conceded just 7 times. Simply put, the expectation among Atlanta United fans is that this should be a win (emphasis on should; this is MLS, after all).
That’s not to say Atlanta has some issues of its own to resolve: their 1-1 draw against FC Dallas saw them put just 2 shots on goal, one of those a converted penalty by Miguel Almiron.
“You (brought) in some real electric players going forward, but it just takes time to understand and trust what you’re going to do in certain moments, what certain tendencies are,” MLS Season Pass commentator Jamie Watson, who’s on the call for Atlanta/New England with Josh Eastern on Saturday, told us on the Scarves and Spikes podcast on Wednesday.
Watson brought up a former teammate Atlanta United players will be very familiar with: Dom Dwyer, who he played with briefly in the USL with Orlando City.
“I loved playing with Dom Dwyer because I understood what Dom Dwyer was going to do when he wanted to move somewhere, what he preferred to do, what his attributes were, what his weaknesses were,” Watson said.
In short, Watson believes things will work themselves out.
“When it’s all said and done, I think that there will be a real course correction from where Atlanta sit in the standings today,” he said.

MY TAKE – #59 – is not consistent – and often time slow with his movement, does not tackle well or at all. I would start Mosquera at LW, Saba at RW, Miggy at the 10, in the middle we were sloppy with Muyaba and Slisz, they need to do better and get the ball up the field. It like they are not confident to turn and face the opponent. Not sure if Klich makes a difference – but the coach needs to give them some instructions. Fortune with some coaching direction may help. As for the back 4 – Amador, Williams, Gregersen and Edwards. Lennon can come in off the bench. I wish Guzan was better at starting counters, he is slow with the ball, and it causes the defense to get trapped – moving backwards – get the ball to to the mids, but then they pass it it right back, which does not help moving it up the field. Lets get to attacking and finish with some goals!!!!!
You had me until “Mosquera”
