Now in the third match of their three game homestand, Atlanta United have amassed four points against NYCFC and FC Dallas through a win and a draw. Now faced with an early afternoon clash against the struggling New England Revolution, the Five Stripes have an opportune chance at three points that shouldn’t be left sitting on the table.
Last weekend’s disappointment was apparent following Atlanta’s 1-1 draw with Dallas. The attack never seemed to click for the home side, accounting for only two shots on target, one of which was Miguel Almiron’s penalty kick. Another flukey goal came in the second half to end things level, which has become a worrying trend throughout the start to this season.
On the other side of things, New England hasn’t clicked much if at all, only scoring three goals consisting of one own goal and two set pieces. They haven’t been completely blown out, but have conceded a goal or two in each match they’ve played. If there’s any time for Atlanta United to have a statement match, this is it. They will be aided by the potential returns of Leo Campana and Tomas Chancalay from injury, however.
While Derrick Williams and Edwin Mosquera remain sidelined with injuries, Pedro Amador and Alexey Miranchuk are back to full health and ready to contribute. Where they’ll play exactly is still to be determined, with Miranchuk potentially reclaiming his role at the 10 and returining Almiron to his wide position. However Ronny Deila lines them up, this is where Atlanta’s attack will have to prove themselves. There really aren’t a whole lot of ways to shrug this one off if not.
Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set for an earlier 2:45 PM ET start this afternoon, and will be televised nationally on FOX and Fox Deportes. Streaming comes as usual from Apple TV with a subscription to MLS Season Pass. Radio coverage is provided in English on 92.9 The Game and in Spanish on La Mejor.

Bring back Valentino
I predicted a frustrating draw. I was an optimist.
Well that was sh!t
Minorly offside twice on goals, hit the frame twice, handball uncalled, soft penalty against, difficult saves multiple times. Really bad luck
Itโs a cop out to chalk this up to bad luck
I dont know why this is getting downvoted. Maybe it was bad luck to be shut out. But we could have also been down 2-3 goals at halftime. Guzan had 6 saves through the first 60 minutes.
More importantly, we were completely outclassed by a far inferior team in the first half.
We look like we don’t know where each other is. What runs to make. Where to pass the ball. Tons of standing around. Disjointed. Unorganized. Uninspired.
Good thing we got rid of Valentino and got an experienced coach. ๐คจ
We look awful. There is no excuse for this. This is just as bad as the last two years.
Apparently we are worse. Losing today makes this the worst start to the season in franchise history.
We are just a cursed city as far as sports go.
The Braves – last place
The Hawks – barely in the playoffs only cause the NBA is a cash grab.
The Falcons – do I need to say anything?
Hockey – both teams bailed out twice
At least we won one championship.
This is just bad soccer all around. Like we don’t practice during practice.
Why didnโt var catch that handball?
“Natural position”? Got me. Watch later in the season; something similar will happen to someone, and a PK will be given.
When was the handball? I’m trying to watch the replays but don’t feel like watching a full 90 minutes of it again.
Not watching the match. Why was Saba subbed off to start the 2nd half? Is he hurt?
Tactical, switched to 3 at the back to counter the high press
Just hacking someone down in midfield should be a yellow, aka second yellow.
Also, it’s way too early to just start flinging crosses into the box all the time.
3-4-2-1 now? With Almiron and Miranchuk double 10s/ inside forwards?
Itโs not like weโre playing bad, we just continue to have crappy luck, and missing the 1% that keeps us from actually executing. I donโt know why we canโt seem to get that
I really don’t think we are too terrible today. Late in that second half for example, we lost the ball when Miggy tried to play Alexy but we counterpressed and Muyumba won it right back. That’s the style we want to play in pinning our opponents back. Ofc the error by Miggy soon thereafter but we had some good moments in attack. Unlucky with the retarded reffing and Latte Lath hitting the bar but wtv. We got this
Considering we are playing at home with a supposedly superior roster against a team that isnt in form and not fully healthy, we got absolutely waxed in the first half.
Have to disagree. I think we look terrible. How many quality chances have we created on offense
I mean, we hit the post twice, should have had a goal but it got called off, and had a missed handball call. That’s 4 goals right there.
Miggy is slaughtering us. Between he and Alexei, we might as well be playing two men down
For playing on the left side Miggy is always in the middle. I donโt think he has the discipline to stay wide. Unfortunately that makes him always about 5 feet from Alexie
We look unorganized…again. Not seeing much from the Coaching staff thru 9 games to make it any better
Agreed. Weโve made approximately zero adjustments to rectify the complete lack of offense
Im so tired of getting outplayed by less talented teams.
We look shell shocked and a little bit lost.
Not sure we can say with a straight face that we are more talented than any team right now.
What the heck is it with these horrible refs screwing us over these past two games
No replay in stadium. How was that offsides?
Apparently amador was offsides when lath played the ball, but it deflected off a defender and amador was no longer offsides then. Iโm not convinced.
The original cross that was deflected….Amador was in an offside position at the initial cross, then touched it after the defender hit it. Seems weak but that’s the call
Apple TV does replays?
Has Saba ever put a volley on frame?
Disappointed that miggy isnโt the 10
What time is actual kickoff? Does coverage begin at 2:30 and kickoff is at 2:45? Or does coverage begin at 2:45 and kickoff is more like 3? I can never fully understand when it is nationally broadcasted.
Atlanta has the line up listed with Saba on RW and Almiron in the LW. That should help the right side link up between Saba and Lennon. Lennon and Almiron was not meshing, so maybe they think it will go smoother with Saba and Lennon
Maybe, but I think Miggy lacking positional discipline will still be a huge issue
How come I feel a frustrating, disappointing draw coming?
With their defense, I would not be surprised.
0-0 all the way baby
I would crash out
I was an optimist
