Safe to say Atlanta United have had an absolutely rough last 72 hours. And it got rougher as Stian Gregersen and Tristan Muyumba are both out for at least 3 weeks, according to the AJC’s Doug Roberson.
Neither Gregersen nor Muyumba lasted the entire first half against the Philadelphia Union. Gregersen barely played a half hour before being lifted in favor of Luis Abram while Muyumba, who was replaced by Mateusz Klich, exited moments later with what initially appeared to be an inner thigh injury.
Fortunately, Noah Cobb, who was taken out in the 66th minute, appears to not be hurt long term.
The injury list for Atlanta isn’t a mile long at this point, but it might as well be considering the way the team’s playing. They’re already set to miss Latte Lath against Orlando City (yellow card accumulation) while Derrick Williams is nearing a return but probably won’t start against Orlando (if he plays at all).
One note as well from Doug: Xande Silva didn’t train with the team after not traveling to Philadelphia, but, Edwin Mosquera did train on Tuesday. If anything develops on the Silva front, we’ll keep you posted.

So many interesting and good ideas for starting lineups, but I haven’t seen anything from Deila yet that indicates he would consider any starting lineup other than the losing one he trots out week after week. I hope I’m wrong and that at some point before the end of this season he tries something different. And I mean BEFORE getting to the point in the game where he makes a smart tactical change. Why can’t he just START a game with a smart tactical change?
It doesn’t matter who starts or who subs, the core issue here is the ability for the team to play like a team. Whether it’s a bunch of dogs, people in wheelchairs, or supporters out there, they still have to play together as a team. The cohesion is not there and nothing matters until that is fixed.
I mean Deila’s been trying changes almost every game tbf
That last note is important and i’m glad the FO is seeing the lack of performance there.
I think Grey is right in that we need to utilize the homegrown talent in lieu of our “preferred” starters. I will say these injuries will probably force Deila to change the midfield in general as well as a big question mark on the LW.
As much flack as Klich gets, he’s the only reason we played a man up last match. With his experience in MLS he knew to kick the ball right into the player obstructing to get the second yellow. I think he can help us with leadership on the pitch (with homegrowns in tandem) and also provide creativity/chipping balls over top like Dax did for us against Miami in the playoffs and in general.
I hope we do this lineup:
Brennan Lath Saba
Miggy
Torres Fortune
Amador Cobb Morales Lennon
Guz
No way we will, but I really hope we do.
Lath is on yellow card suspension. I’d say Fortune could relieve Klich if we need.
My lineup is similar tho.
Brennan (or Mira) – Thiare – Saba
Miggy
Slisz – Klich (or Mira)
Amador – Cobb – Morales – Lennon
Guz
I don’t understand the Klich hate…he’s the only 6 that we have that knows how to play that position and control the ball. Better than Slisz, Fortune is not a 6, and no one else is really up for that task. Plus he’s got the experience and will drive forward as needed if the play allows (and can hit bangers).
Oh no I hope we don’t start losing
Lmao thank you, this is just what I needed to laugh right now
Goood! Bench em all!!! Call up the 2’s. Cant be worse lets at least see some one who is excited to be out there
If Williams and Cobb are not healthy enough to go next week, Abram and Morales will be our only two CBs available to play with Matt Edwards and Ronald Hernandez as our backups.
Fortune should start every match if Muyumba is out for at least a month, and Will Reilly should pair with him for some of those starts if Miranchuk isn’t playing as the 8 double pivot partner.
If rumors are true about Silva potentially being on the way out and Mosquera not being ready to play, Luke Brennan should be starting opposite Saba with Almiron at the 10.
Add that to no Latte against Orlando, and we’ll probably win 3-0, just because there’s no reason why anything has to make sense.
Please say more about these rumors or kindly point me in the right direction to find them. I have not heard anything but admittedly my sources in the club are ill informed and fictional.
Silva was a fun addition his first season but last year he and Muyumba seemed to be not so interested in playing. This season Muyumba seems to have regained his interest and utility for the club. Silva… I can not recall if he has played at all so far this season and that is telling.
It ended up not happening with Silva. There was speculation on Tuesday after Silva was not part of the team that traveled to Philadelphia and was not seen in practice at the beginning of the week. Ended up not being anything.
Looks like I spoke too soon.
This season is so wild. Can someone hit the reset button on this season so we can try it again from the top.
We would need to go back to January so we could not sign Klich and dump Muyumba, Slisz, and Miranchuk and sign a DP 8, TAM CM and starting CB.
