Have you thought to yourself recently: “Man, I sure wish I could watch Atlanta United play soccer more often! Once a week is far from enough!”? If so, first of all, seek immediate medical attention. Secondly, good news! The Five Stripes play not once but *twice* this week, starting tonight with the team’s first ever trip to Q2 Stadium to face a cross-conference foe in Austin FC.
Saturday’s trip to Chicago saw Atlanta provide the Fire with their first home win of the season as things went from bad, to worse, to downright ugly. Atlanta offered no attacking threats against a Chicago side that shipped seven goals to Nashville just a couple weeks earlier, and when they did level the match thanks to our old friend Own Goal, who is now back to being Atlanta United’s second highest goalscorer, Chicago was quickly able to regroup and retake the lead nearly at will. Atlanta has now lost four of their last five and sit one from the bottom in the Eastern Conference. Things are grim.
Despite Ronny Deila’s attempts at seeing what will stick tactically with this roster over the past few matches, it’s difficult to imagine things will suddenly improve in blistering hot Texas, where kickoff time was pushed back to 9:00 PM ET tonight due to triple digit temperatures. Austin may not be the best team in the league, scoring only 8 goals so far in MLS play and sitting 8th in the West, but they’ll be glad to see Atlanta on their schedule toinght as a chance to pick up a win in front of their own crowd. Austin FC, along with former Five Stripes Brandon Vasquez and Jon Gallagher, will run up against the league leading Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, and will be looking for their first result in league play since beating the Galaxy on April 19th.
We’ve heard from Deila that player rotation will likely be made in the midweek match, and it’ll be all the more necessary with the addition of Brooks Lennon to the injury report with a hamstring injury. Lennon joins Pedro Amador and Stian Gregersen on the sideline, forcing more changes to a depleted Atlanta backline.
Stay up if you dare as Atlanta United gets back in action at 9:00 PM, with streaming provided on Apple TV with a subscription to MLS Season Pass. Radio coverage is provided in English on 92.9 The Game and in Spanish on La Mejor. As always, join in the conversation in the match thread below, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll see some midweek MLS After Dark magic.

Leave miranass on the bench please
Or in Texas.
This who should start…
,….LL..
Mosquera…miggy..saba
…..fortune…#8…
Amador…williams..cobb…edwards…
…..Cohen or Hibbert
I think you are missing one player… But yeah, tbh, I kinda agree that Mosquera should start. I mean, he makes stuff happen.
I think Mosquera is better suited for the super sub role where he runs circles around tired defenders. I can’t remember a time where he had a good 90 min match.
Agreed. But I think Guz is still better than what Iโve seen from Cohen. Donโt know about Hibbert. But Cohen looked rough the only time I saw him start.
don’t hang your head Austin, you still have a good chance to beat us.
Well that was unexpected (in a good way )
How is that not offsides?
I’m not 100% sure myself, but I could tell the camera angle is a bit misleading. If you’re replaying it and pausing, check the lines on the field
I’m checking the replay, it’s hard to tell, very close. It’s not clear either way. Possibly offside, but I personally wouldn’t feel confident enough to overturn a call on the field.
Have you met VAR? They’re NEVER afraid to make a call they have no business making lol.
But honestly it looked like Thiare was running in line with the ball as it left the foot. Those goals are always iffy-looking but it’s because we are so used to judging offside by the man when it should really be the ball in those situations.
What do you know? Miranchuk subbed off and we show a pulse.
If this coach continues to play shit players…this team will be shitty. #59,,43, hernandez, abram should never start..on any team. Slisz is also crap…and the keeper is old and slow, cannot stop nothing.
WE SUCKยก!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
touch pace accuracy pick one
not even pick two
Just floating this. What if we donโt play Miranchuk? Just for, like, a game. See what happens. Just to see if having ten decent field players on is a good strategy?
Nothing will change cuz there is no identity in the team, no chemistry, and a clear lack of leadership from the coaching staff. The team never bought into his tactics. Youโre more than welcome to blame one individual but the entire team (including the manager) is performing like shit. Including yalls favorite hero who missed an easy 1v1 lmao
Miranchuk has been particularly bad this game, but without him it just goes from absymal to… well, still abysmal.
Miranchuk is the glaring problem, and has been all year. Iโm not saying we win the league if we sit him. But the team will play better by default. At this point thatโs all Iโd like to see. We made a mistake. Fine. Sunk cost. Sit him, and move on.
Lmao if you donโt see other โglaringโ problems (trust me thereโs so damn many of them) then good luck to your mental health my guy ๐คฃ
I didnโt say he was the โonlyโ glaring problem. I said he was โtheโ glaring problem. If you canโt understand that, then good luck with your reading comprehension, my guy. ๐คฃ
lmao he must be at fault for the last 5 years in that case ๐ญ๐คฃ
How can we be this bad on offense?
It is mind boggling that we canโt function cohesively from half field to the goal
Have we had a possession in the other teams half this half?
My god we are bad
Miranchuk, the only member of the wall who didnโt jump.
Must be because of those cement shoes he wears when he’s running.
Womp womp
Poop
There it is
2 bad teams playing bad soccer.
Sunday pick up league.
Alexey on the left has been better than him in the center so far. Maybe? Not great but something.
Slisz needs to get out of the way. Play fortune. Please.
Was just saying. This is beer league. Going through the motions.
Delia has lost the team.
And with our roster, I donโt think he had a chance. He wants a team that presses. Our guys donโt want to run faster than a jog.
I can’t keep my eyes open. This is some boring shit.
Meanwhile our defense full of holes.
Klich and Miranchuk are killing us, which is pretty ridiculous given their pedigree. They should be making the most dangerous passes.
Like the one Klich made to Almiron who proceeded to miss a 1v1 chance?
Fair, I hadn’t tuned in yet, so I didn’t see it until the halftime replays. Is it fair to say we should have more of those?
Yes. More than fair. Heโs The Maestro, after all.
Itโs very clear that some players want to go TOWARDS the opposing goal and some want to pass backwards. We REALLY need some leaders on this team.
Klich seems always to be running towards our goal. Just killing any momentum.
Every time Edwards gets the ball his first instinct is backwards. I guess Iโd rather have his energy than brooks sailing cross after cross over the entire team.
19 mins in. Not eye catching stuff. But about what I would expect for a team full of capable holding mids, but none single handedly capable of doing so by themselves combined with choosing to play 5 at the back due to injuries or otherwise.
I canโt wait for Almiron, Mira, and LL to all move centrally and occupy the same place. Maybe they will a conga line towards the goal, or like one of those 1-legged races.
BTW – Eli White has a great at bat going right now
Literally forgot there was a game today. And I kinda wished it had stayed that way…
Austin, we are good for what ails you. When do we get to play LA? They need help too.
Good news for Saturday. AU is offering $20 free food voucher and Free 1 year subscription to the Atlanta Journal (I wouldn’t get it otherwise) NOTE: only for Season Ticket Holders but don’t quote me on this). Sounds like things are getting desperate. I had returned 5 game tickets about a week ago.
Where did you see $20 free food voucher?
It was on AU email. You have to use the AU app. Donโt know if they sent to all STH holders though
Iโm predicting we lose 0-1.
Actually, we should have.
Yay, 2 games in 1 week = double the frustration. Can’t wait.
Curious if we will have any 4 day contracts since we don’t have Lennon or Amador available tonight. I guess we will have Cobb as a back up FB for Hernandez and Edwards.
9PM ET on a Wed….yeah. I won’t be watching this since I have to be up at 4:30 for work. Good Luck United.
My Dad did that every day for decades. I did not inherit that trait from him. I don’t envy you the early start to your day, sir.
