The soccer gods may no longer love Atlanta United, but unfortunately the spotlights still do. The Five Stripes play host to a Cincinnati side this Sunday evening that is even with first place in the East Philadelphia on points as one of this week’s Sunday Night Soccer matches, whether the attention is wanted or not.
Atlanta fell 1-0 at home last weekend to a deeply rotated Philadelphia Union, extending the winless run to eight matches. The gauntlet of opponents only continues with today’s run in with FC Cincinnati, and won’t slow down with Orlando City and the New York Red Bulls on the horizon. While the Five Stripes were able to pull off a 2-2 road draw the last time they faced Cincy, that previous matchup was in the midst of an international break with both sides missing huge chunks of their starting lineups. Evander was able to handle the rotated Atlanta squad basically by himself back then, and this time he’ll be armed with attacking threat Kevin Denkey alongside him, and familiar face Miles Robinson in the backline joins fellow center back Matt Miazga. It’s not feeling great.
Two more names joined the Atlanta United injury report for this one, with Brooks Lennon sidelined again after his early exit against Philadelphia, and Tristan Muyumba with a knee injury. Stian Gregersen, still battling a quad injury, remains out.
Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is scheduled for a slightly earlier than usual 7:00 PM ET start, with streaming provided on Apple TV with a subscription to MLS Season Pass. Radio coverage will be available in English on 92.9 The Game and in Spanish on La Mejor.

I had forgotten the local radio was available until 10 minutes into second half. Twellman, as usual, awful. Someone needs to tell him Gary Danielson has the missed call shtick covered.
The boys looked dangerous tonight!
Work to do, for sure, but explosive/aggressive play made up for sloppy play elsewhere.
Pray tell me the point if that free kick
Fortune man of the match
Fortune on fire today. Slisz also playing decently well. Also Hernandez has been very good defensively.
Defense was atrocious on that second Cinci goal.
The Miggy, head down and dribble till heโs dispossessed move has not aged well
“ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?”
On one hand, cin is slicing our defense up, weโre surviving by Guzan, refs, and poor shot placement. And we havenโt created a lot of shots.
On the other, holy moly weโre winning by more than one goal!
As much as I am glad we are currently leading, but the officiating has bailed us out a lot in the first half.
With the amount of BS, we have seen in the last couple of years. Ignoring blatant fouls on Pity, calling the half when we are breaking on the attack, calling a ball hitting our arms a penalty but not the opposition. I don’t care.
If Arthur has is holding the ref’s family hostage, and the ref actually scores a goal for us. We’re still not close to even.
This has been the most exciting game of the season for me. Thank goodness
What in the fluster cuck
VAR has been busy and inconsistent.
Latte Lath….how do you fuck that up???
He suffers from the same curse as all of our other prized signings. They come here and their skills disappear
In his defense, this may be the first game in a WHILE where he has had chances
Thereโs no defense for a striker of his caliber blowing a 1v1 like that IMO
ELlโฆ. Just wow.
Why does Miggy always give the ball awayโฆ he has looked so awful this year
Well hot damn!!
Come in yall!! BOOM and with a hockey assist with a hockey assist from Miles Robinson. This is what we needed!
So we opened with 5 receivers wide right and โฆ nothing.
Stadium looks so empty. Someone in person please send a pic.
I’m here cause I’m masochistic. Why…why do we do this to ourselves??
would have rather have Cobb starting at RCB, but at this point I guess it doesn’t really matter because it seems like our opponent always capitalize on our mistakes but we can never capitalize on their mistakes.
I have hope with the lineup/formation tbh. Letโs find out
I will be there rooting and hoping – unfortunately, while hope springs eternal, reality crushes dreams quickly. A non-scoreless draw will seem like a victory.
I look forward to seeing how this team will disappoint me this week.
1) Unforced errors
2) Lack of hustle
3) Lack of connectivity in attack
4) One or two egregious defensive mistakes
Think thatโs what I gotโฆ
Youโre probably right. The frustrating thing is they disappoint us in much the same way every week. Would be great if they fixed some of those things or at least find *new* ways to disappoint.
I’ll be there, only because our 5-game pack included today’s game. Not expecting much though so i’ll enjoy my beer, the Miles welcome back, and the fact that i’ll be watching sports. I am not expecting a win, and i’m genuinely curious if we’ll even score a goal.
4-0 Cincinnati no joke
I donโt think this is far off, but I bet we get one. Iโm going with 3-1 Cincy
I have very little hope for Atlanta today:
Last win March
Last win vs Cincinnati 2021
Atlanta given up most penalties
Cincinnati really good on the road
I can only wonder what new formation we will use today that wonโt work. He needs to start Saba bench miranchuk
I donโt understand the persistence with this manager. Last game they mentioned he started slow with NYCFC is that what we are being subjected to? The hope that the manager magically turns it around? Atlanta fans wonโt tolerate much more of this.
My prediction is 2-0 Cinci
While I donโt have a lot of hopeโฆ vamos Atlanta
Last week my measure of success was scoring three goals–a stretch target. This week it’s two–still a stretch.
Success!
