In a week that has already been full of first team news, here’s an important piece of second team news.
Atlanta United announced the departure of second team head coach Steve Cooke on Wednesday. He leaves the club to join USL Championship club Lexington SC as the club’s Academy and Youth Technical director. Assistant coach Jose Silva will act as interim head coach while the club finds a replacement.
Cooke joined the club in February 2023, ahead of the second team’s debut in MLS NEXT Pro, and coached 71 matches with a 27-43-1 record.
Atlanta United 2 continues its 2025 season with a visit to New England Revolution II on Wednesday, July 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 am ET.

Lateral move?
Well he is going from HC to Academy/Youth Technical Director, so I would think it is an upward move.
Was thinking in terms of league affiliation, but yeah I guess it’s a bigger title.
USL is definitely higher than MLS NextPro
Thanks – I was not sure of the hierarchy.
