Atlanta United finally, after ten winless matches has won a game. In Leagues Cup , no less! Unfortunately, the result was made meaningless well before kickoff as both teams were already eliminated from the knockout phase.
Tonight’s trip to Montréal, though, still has competitive meaning. Both sides, despite their lowly positions in the Eastern Conference table (Atlanta 13th, Montréal 15th, aka last) are still technically eligible for the postseason.
Of course, the chances of either winning the coveted Wooden Spoon are infinitely higher, and if that’s the sort of thing you’re here for, this result could have massive implications.
CF Montréal’s last MLS match resulted in a 3-1 road win in New England, and then embarked on a Leagues Cup campaign by beating Club León in penalties before falling in their next two. Atlanta, meanwhile, finally found their win on Wednesday, but haven’t won an MLS match since May. Trips to Quebec are never easy, but to lose the three point gap separating the Five Stripes from the bottom would be the latest low point of 2025.
It would especially be low if Efrain Morales has any decisive action, as the former Atlanta United defender was traded to the Canadian side only two weeks ago. He scored for his new club against Toluca in Leagues Cup, and was recently signed to a three year guaranteed contract extension with an extra option year. It’s a storyline waiting to happen.
Since Wednesday, Atlanta has added two more names to the injury report. Jamal Thiaré (calf) and newly debuted Cooper Sanchez (Quad) are both out for the trip north. On the upside, this could mean more minutes for Cayman Togashi, who scored his first for the club against Atlas with an incredible header.

Fucking Miguel almiron doesn’t do shit bro didn’t create anything. Always in the way. We played better without him last game with Saba on the right wing.
Brilliant Battle of the Spoon
Different game, same stuff yall
If only we could score early in the game instead all late and shit 😐
THATS WHAT WE DO!!!
Rescue single points
Alexey keeps scoring late. Wow.
Yes they play our horrible manager’s way through most of the matches then they finally play like players that want to attack.
We as fans can’t get too made at the defense late in the game when they are under constant pressure for the majority of ever match. Sometimes playing “out of the back” is not needed.
I propose in the next match that we start like we finish, the other team will not know what’s going on.
nice assist from our former Atlanta, Morales
I’ll allow it
there we go
Ugly … but it counts
Barrocal looked like Abram there
We are a clown show. Most of our guys look either lost or like they’ve quit. No movement on offense. Defense is unorganized and refuses to pressure the ball. Acres of space and tons of time in our defensive third.
Prince getting the royal treatment
well his name is Prince, so that is supposed to happen I guess
Someone tell the supporters groups to make a tifo of a wooden spoon
That would require the supporters to actually so up for a match.
Watching Miranchuk and Almiron both standing next to each other with the ball, neither one making a run
Our front office sure picks handsome center backs
Need to figure out some sort of offensive sub, Brennan for Saba or something
Wow Lennon actually had a good play, too bad he couldn’t finish. Reminiscent of when Lennon has been good
Why ain’t Saba on the right man that’s where he’s really good at and sub almiron and muyumba pls they suck right now and latte wtf man that should be 2 goals right now gosh this team sucks
I know that last shot was offsides, but still a really good save by Guzan
Sub out Muyumba and Guzan, wow
Eating failure porridge with a wooden spoon
Why tf are we paying to watch this garbage
I got free MLS Pass, so that’s the only reason I am watching this vomit stain of a team
Radio is still free.
Muyumba is a backwards passing giveaway machine today
What. A. Miss.
Man, you can tell this is a wooden spoon game. Everyone making dumb defensive mistakes and everyone missing sitters
This is the sitcom match of MLS this weekend. And boy am I having a good laugh.
Latte had Almiron totally open , misses the goal … this dude is. It impressive
Just a reminder we paid over 20 mil for a guy who has had 2 gimmies and made a mess of both
He has been such a disappointment. What did they see in him? No touch or vision.
Guess the championship tier of English football is trash. Cause he lit them up. But here, wow is he terrible.
Doesn’t bode well for alzate
now this time, Latte had to make that…
Muyumba trying hard to prove he’s a worse player than Lennon. Guzan not much better
Damn muyumba that was a perfect through ball to the striker . Too bad Guzman had to intercept your pass at the last second
A whole Latte of nothing – a shot right at the keeper
That was a dreadful attempt. I thought surely he could finish that layup. Nope
at least he is getting the ball on his feet into the box.
Montreal may be bad but their stadium seems relatively full and they crowd seems loud (on tv at least)
well that is the negative of playing in a big stadium like Mercedes, I think having a smaller stadium makes it look more full. BMO Field holds around 28,000. Mercedes holds around 73,000, but that is probably with the upper level open.
yikes, Morales gets an early yellow
wow, both Alzate and Berrocal are on the bench today. I guess they were able to get their visas. so hopefully both of them will see the pitch tonight for a bit.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this too
yea, considering Doug Roberson reported just a few days ago saying they were practicing separating because they did not get their visas yet.
I don’t suppose them being in Canada helps any for them being available?
I’m not familiar with immigration law to that extent, but pretty sure they would still need the visa in the US to be eligible to play in Canada since Atlanta is a US based team.
I kinda hope Efrain gets his pound of flesh.
Still waiting for LL to get going and show us he’s the right, expensive, fit. Curious to see the starting lineup and if Deila saw something from the stands that he doesn’t on the sideline.
I think a pound of saba’s ankle is in his cleat
