Do I have to write a recap of this? I do? Ok. Here goes.
Atlanta United played Toronto FC to an unremarkable 0-0 draw on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Though still not mathematically eliminated from the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs, the result brings them one step closer, as they are 16 points behind New York Red Bulls for the ninth and final spot with a maximum of 21 points from seven remaining games.
Head coach Ronny Deila made some significant changes to the lineup that fell 3-1 at Colorado Rapids last weekend. Jayden Hibbert made his third start of the season in between the sticks, while Pedro Amador slotted back in at left back after returning from injury. In the attack, Luke Brennan was deployed on the left wing with Saba Lobjanidze opposite him on the right, and Miguel Almiron leading the line as the striker.
Atlanta United’s interesting new lineup created a few positive moments early in the game, but those quickly faded away as the team became increasingly sloppy with its buildup. The Five Stripes created some chances, including an Alexey Miranchuk shot in a spot he’s scored from before, but were ultimately outshot by the visitors 11-6.
Jayden Hibbert posted two key saves to keep a clean sheet, the team’s first since its scoreless draw at D.C. United on July 5.
The Five Stripes hit the road once more for a visit to GEODIS Park, where they will face rivals Nashville SC on Saturday, August 30.

Playoffs? The Stripes are a whole lot closer to a Wodden Spoon…
The player of the match on Apple TV was some guy from Toronto who’s two highlights they showed were a shot off target and a pass. What a terrible match
Season was over bro we not making playoffs at all 😂😂
There are still 7 more games left this season. Fortunately, only 3 of them at home.
This. I hate to admit it, but I’m dreading the time and effort required to go to the Benz to watch whatever this is, so I’m thankful there are so few home games left.
Have already sold every ticket left… I don’t know what poor soul is buying these…
Someone who doesn’t look at the standings, their bank account balance, or both lol
Or the score, or the quality of play on the field 😬
I’m a sucker for punishment. It’s a sad display, but I still root for this team and support them. I have to hope there is light at the end of this tunnel but i’m a bit skeptical of Deila. I hope Henderson and team are keeping an eye on him specifically because I have to believe our players didn’t just forget how to play football.
Forget? When did they know? It feels like it’s been a while since we had something worth watching.
Before they got here
Playoff hopes dwindled 12 weeks ago, just after our last win.
“Playoffs???? I just hope we can win a game.”
[…] Atlanta United’s playoff hopes continue to dwindle after scoreless draw with Toronto FC […]
Playoffs?? Now you are just trolling us Henry .
Thankfully, if NYRB win their next two matches, then this charade of a season will be over before the Nashville match.
Hibbert was the only bright spot, we had nothing in attack we never challenged there goal keeper. It’s so painful to watch.
