Atlanta United at Nashville SC: Match Thread and How to Watch

Atlanta United midfielder Bartosz Slisz #6 celebrates after a goal during the second half of the match against the Nashville SC at GEODIS Park in Nashville, TN on Saturday May 18, 2024.

Atlanta United’s dreams of the postseason have finally reached the precipice of elimination tonight as they head north to Tennessee to face a Nashville SC side that would find immense joy in hammering the nail in their local rival’s coffin.

It’ll take a loss or a draw, paired with the New York Red Bulls defeating the Columbus Crew, to seal the Five Stripes’ fate with six matches still to be played. The Red Bulls are an impressive 10-2-2 at home this year, putting the scenario well within the realm of possibility. Nashville, meanwhile, tore a rotated Orlando City side apart last weekend, winning 5-1 at home. For an Atlanta United squad yet to win a single road match this year, things are looking real slim.

Ronny Deila confirmed on Thursday that Jayden Hibbert will remain in goal for the match tonight, his second consecutive start coming on the back of a clean sheet kept in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Toronto FC. Latte Lath will remain sidelined with a hamstring injury, though, with the striker expected to return following next week’s international break. It’s doubtful we see another attempt at playing Miguel Almiron up top, so expect to see Jamal Thiare in the lineup with Cayman Togashi waiting from the bench.

Will the squad have enough in them to offset the likes of Sam Surridge and Hany Mukhtar? It’s hard to imagine, but what a way it would be to end an eleven match winless run with a result at the home of one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

Clueless Joe

Cemented Delia’s job to start next season, not that there were a lot of serious indications they were gonna let him go.

ApteraMan

Who injured Muyl?

Captain Zero

Gregerson.

ShortRound_RB

So I was driving all day and literally just caught stoppage time. Is it worth going back to watch?

Jordan Horne

Itโ€™s a road win so I think so lol.

Antzhort

Yes! You should watch it. Worth it for individual performances, and over all grit and regency from the team. Iโ€™m actually looking forward to watching the replay with. Cup of Joe in the morning.

Antzhort

*urgency

TioMessi

If you want to see us win ever again, you should at least take a peek.

ATLNino

Best theyโ€™ve looked all year. Alzate was tremendous and everything followed from that. Desperately need midfield and outside back depth.

Jordan Horne

Agree. Alzate was what weโ€™ve been missing

Jordan Horne

My gracious they finally did it boys

Captain Zero

Praise the Lord.

Antzhort

Well played Match. Hilbert MOTM. Nashville was really wanting it, and weโ€™re very close.

Jordan Horne

He was unbelievable. Several where I said โ€œyea, Brad ainโ€™t saving that!โ€

Antzhort

I said the same thing several times. Difference maker this evening.

ATLNino

Miranchuk looks gassed. Sloppy play the last 10

ATLNino

Muyumba for Alzate. Not a promising sub.

Captain Zero

We want Lennon for Hernandez LOLOLOL

Antzhort

The match is pretty end to end. Feels like we could lose control in the second half, or score a couple more. At least itโ€™s entertaining right now.

Captain Zero

Handball.

Captain Zero

Too easy for NSH down the right side.

WestCoastATLien

I think we need to see Saba for Brennan.

Cris

I refuse to let myself get to excited

Captain Zero

Brilliant.

VAMOS ATLANTA

Why am I here? I could be enjoying my Saturday night in so many other ways. TV, games, heck, even getting some work done. I could even catch up on some much needed sleep. But nope, I instead choose to watch Atlanta United. At least Alatze is starting.

Captain Zero

OK Alzate is starting so maybe I’ll watch.

schyoo

I would hope Thiare is at least 60 min fit, so he can start tonight instead of coming off the bench
