Atlanta United nearly pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in MLS history on Saturday against the Columbus Crew. Despite facing a 5-0 deficit in the first half, they scored the next four goals but ultimately lost 5-4 as they officially were eliminated from MLS Cup Playoff contention.

Here’s the thing about a manager’s past accomplishments: the value ends when you go to the next job. I was excited for Deila to get here because of his experience and recent MLS Cup, but none of that matters when you’ve run us into the ground. The boys are spot-on with seeing through the BS pressers and identifying empty excuses. If he turns things around in 2026, cool, but there are no indicators as of today that he’s the guy to do it.

I understand that the Club has said he is safe until next year, but I think that is likely to result in us being near the bottom of the standings by the time the Club pulls the trigger – with our best “hope” being to barely make the playoffs. Better to cut our losses now, get a new manager, and reshape the club over the winter.
