Fafa Picault to sign for Atlanta United, per report

Atlanta United looks to be on the verge of signing a veteran winger to its ranks.

Fafa Picault, who played for Inter Miami in 2025 and helped the Herons win their first-ever MLS Cup, will sign with Atlanta, according to a report from Tom Bogert. Miami declined the contract option of Picault at the close of the season.

Despite his age (almost 35), Picault still appears to have at least some left in the tank. In 752 minutes with Miami in 2025, he posted four goals and an assist. That’s after a 9g/5a season in 2024.

Atlanta sorely needs depth at the wing position, among other places. A player like Picault helps them fill a position of need while serving as a potential source of veteran leadership. From a financial standpoint, Picault’s budget charge in 2025 was $642,000, but it’s definitely likely he won’t be making that much in 2026.

In short, it’s a signing that certainly shouldn’t hurt Atlanta in the long run. Let us know what you think of this potential addition in the comments.

Seems like a solid depth piece.
Sounds like River Plate is making AU rethink their offer for Galarza. https://lapaginamillonaria.com/amp/mercado-de-pases/river-le-dio-una-respuesta-a-atlanta-united-tras-la-oferta-por-galarza-fonda

Oof, 5 mil minimum offer for a player with not a lot of minutes and no recorded goals or assists? That sounds like a classic case of locking us into a bad contract that is hard to move in from if it doesn’t work out (well except I guess it’s a loan so it would work itself out eventually if we decided not to buy and we wouldn’t actually be out that kind of cash?).

Yeah, That sounds like a chunk for a player not seeing the pitch. Transfermarkt has him valued at closer to $3 mil so maybe this falls between those numbers if it gets done.

My take from the article was that River Plate wasn’t willing to let him go at a loss, so they are demanding a higher fee. It also said the player had performed poorly since coming to River Plate.

Might be better off looking elsewhere.

Yup.

Great depth piece, mls veteran, can play a variety of attacking positions. If we can get him for $350-450k I think it’s a good pick up and seems to be a good product of Tata’s style of play.

I’d want to see the $…could be nice if close to the mins.

Like this signing. Quality depth with experience.

Jon

Is this the previously mentioned “Trialist” ?

schyoo

That could be possible since they mentioned the trialist as an attacking player.

Aaaaaahhhhhhhh, didn’t think about that.

Marcelo

Unenforced error. Next

Why?

Sam Hutcheson

It’s Marcelo. Fafa Picault is not a South American footballer, so Marcelo thinks he’s shite.

Depth in a place it was needed.

Love this signing. He’s not an everyday starter but this dude can still light it up

Samuel Hutcheson

Same. Then again, I felt similarly about signing Derrick Etienne.

Samesies…
