We go again. And again, and again, and again.
It looked better on Wednesday… until it didn’t. Atlanta United ended the night on the losing end for the seventh time this season despite leading the match for 35 minutes, dropping to sole ownership of last place in the Eastern Conference. Within five minutes, the New England Revolution turned the scoreline compeltely on its head, becoming the latest team to enter Mercedes-Benz Stadium and leave with all three points.
The hardest part of it all is that Atlanta, for large portions of the match, looked like the dominant team on the night. But, as we’ve come to experience over and over as of late, the Five Stripes are unable to harness their momentum for the enitre 90 minutes, oftentimes to the point of completely shutting down and leaving the outcome up for grabs. It’s a torturous cycle that Atlanta United can’t seem to escape from.
Well, there’s no way out but through, and the next step in that arduous journey goes through Toronto, Canada this afternoon. It’s an uncommon early afternoon kickoff this time around, with a start time set for 1:00 PM ET. That’ll leave you with an entire free evening to do anything else besides watch Atlanta United. Use it wisely.
Toronto FC have only two losses this year, getting all their troubles out of the way early on and losing their first two matches all the way back in February. It looked as though they’d be adding a third on Wednesday before goalkeeper Luka Gavran rescued them in the 96th minute with a last gasp header to equalize the match at three.
Toronto goalkeeper Luka Gavran and Atlanta’s $22 million striker Latte Lath have the same amount of goals through nine matches in the 2026 season. I need to go lie down now.
While I do that, let’s take a peek at some stat lines for toinght’s matchup with the help of stats.scarvesandspikes.com:

Yep, Fafa Picault immediately jumps into the list of Atlanta’s key players after scoring his first league goal for the club on Wednesday. He was an active participant in attacking buildup throughout his shift, and ultimately ended up in the right place to put Atlanta ahead in the 38th minute. Latte Lath, meanwhile, began on the bench, only entering once Atlanta United was chasing the game in the final minutes. Was it rest in a congested schedule… or something else?
Whether or not Tata Martino will elect to continue Wednesday night’s tactic of a “strikerless” formation with Alexey Miranchuk dropping deep and letting wider players like Picault and Lobjanidze advance forward will be seen today. It will be telling as to whether Atlanta will continue trying to adapt with this roster, or simply just tough it out until the transfer window. The injury report is the same as last match, so no Almiron, Alzate, or Sergio Santos, and whether or not Tomas Jacob is ready to return remains to be seen.
After making six changes to the starting eleven and seeing a clearly better product, which direction does Atlanta United go from here? Can this team contend against the likes of Josh Sargent and Walker Zimmerman? We’ll find out sooner than later today, so get your brunch in and get ready for whatever potential misfortunes we might witness.

In reference to the camera work today, my wife said โIt must be bring your kid to work dayโ
About damn time
Something good – cayman scoring and putting the effort in
Something bad – unknown offsides and getting hurt
Something worse – the human money put in as a replacement
Will a break in the drought coincide with a break in our points drought
Arthur Blank probably is like the NWSL can’t get started soon enough.
4-2 Toronto FC win over ATL UTD. Josh Sargent with a brace. Also, is it just me (or) do the players look in the Starting XI photo for today like they are all checked out and not ready to play on the pitch (*Side Note: I don’t blame them). Toronto’s keeper is really shaky between the sticks, so I’ve upped the chances for some of our pinball and unpredictable shots more than likely go in this match @ 2 goals.
Interesting to see that even Tata has decided LL is a detriment to this team.
