Barring a dramatic change of events, all signs point to Júnior Alonso becoming an Atlanta United player. He has already said his goodbyes to Atlético Mineiro, who confirmed on Thursday that the two sides have come to a mutual termination agreement. He was also spotted at Atlanta’s friendly against Sporting Kansas City at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground.
Now, Alonso’s agent, Diego Serrati, has opened up with more insight into his client’s contract, revealing that it will be a three-year deal.
“We had already talked about Júnior six months ago (and) he had agreed that after the World Cup he would go to Atlanta,” Serrati told Monumental 1080 in Paraguay. “Everything went well for him (and) he was on his way so that he could play and have a three-year contract at Atlanta United.”
While Alonso was deployed as a left back during the World Cup, Serrati clarified that it was because of injuries within the Paraguayan camp, adding that Alonso “feels more comfortable” on the left side of a center back pairing.
He also revealed that there was another MLS offer on the table for Alonso.
“Yes, they called us, but the truth is that Junior always wanted to go (to Atlanta). And well, when they called us, we told the clubs that we were already on our way,” he said.
Alonso is expected to be the first of several moves for Atlanta United during the summer transfer window. River Plate defender Paúlo Diaz is also pending an official announcement; he was also at the friendly against SKC. Boca Juniors forward Alan Velasco and River Plate midfielder Giuliano Galoppo have also been linked to the club.

Another old slow dude. Great.
