SnS Daily: The morning after – Atlanta United draw Charlotte FC 2-2 + Latte Lath Watch is on

Good morning! Sydney here with this edition of the Scarves and Spikes Daily newsletter. Follow me on XBSkyIG, and Threads.

Charlotte FC 2, Atlanta United 2

Just when it looked like Atlanta United was destined for another derby loss โ€” this time against Charlotte FC โ€” Elรญas Bรกez and Miguel Almirรณn both struck in the second half to salvage a point on the road. (Our player ratings form is here and closes at 11 p.m. tonight.)

It capped a night that began interestingly. Emmanuel Latte Lath, after less than 18 months with the club, was held out of the lineup amid transfer discussions. You don’t need me to tell you what a bad signing this was. In terms of advanced stats, though:

According to American Soccer Analysis, goals added (g+) “measures a playerโ€™s total on-ball contribution in attack and defense … by calculating how much each touch changes their teamโ€™s chances of scoring and conceding across two possessions.” This season, through 1,025 minutes, Latte Lath’s g+ is at 2.14. For comparison, Lionel Messi leads the way (10.77) along with Gabriel Pec (6.27) and…Preston Judd, notably not at all a DP (6.26). Latte Lath is second-lowest among primary strikers who have played at least 1,000 minutes.

And now Latte Lath watch is in full effect. Which team will emerge as his primary suitor? Is it a loan or a permanent transfer? Who takes his place up top? It’s a decision Atlanta can’t afford to get wrong again. Stay locked to the website and follow us on social media as we give you the latest when we receive it.
