Never in doubt, right?

Atlanta fell behind Red Bull New York 1-0 in the sixth minute as its first home match since May got off on the wrong foot. It looked as if this would go down as another loss, but Tristan Muyumba (69′) and Fafa Picault (82′) had other plans. Suddenly, a 1-0 defecit turned into a 2-1 win that ensured the Mercedes-Benz Stadium crowd went home happy.

Let’s level-set first: This is not a playoff team. But after blowing a 2-0 lead at the Philadelphia Union two weeks ago, it was good to see them not only win, but hold on to a late lead. It comes on the heels of a quick turnaround: Atlanta heads to the Twin Cities to face Minnesota United at Allianz Field on Wednesday. If it can maintain the momentum from last night’s match, it’ll have no problem going toe-to-toe with a Loons team hovering just above the red line. This team has appeared to make baby steps in the past before completely losing the plot, though. We’ll see if this time is different.

By the way, hats off to Muyumba for bouncing back from a missed opportunity in the first half and scoring his second golazo in as many matches in the second half. He is frustrating to watch at times, but when he gathers confidence, he can do what he did last night. Well-taken, and a goal that set up Picault’s eventual winner.

• Atlanta United’s next opponent, Minnesota United, played Real Salt Lake to a 1-1 draw on the road. Joaquín Pereyra equalized in the 89th minute to rescue a point for the visitors.
• Guilherme can’t sotp scoring. He found the net for the third straight match for the Houston Dynamo, who defeated the LA Galaxy 1-0. The Dynamo are 5-0-2 in their last seven.
• St. Louis City walked into PayPal Park and left with a 3-1 win. I’m very high on St. Louis, which is now 7-0-2 in its last nine. The Quakes…could be in trouble? They’re 0-3-1 in their last four.
• Toronto FC snapped an 0-5-7 skid with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution. The Revs haven’t won since beating Atlanta 4-1; they’re 0-2-1 in their last three.
