Jay Fortune is staying at Atlanta United.
The homegrown midfielder, who joined Atlanta’s academy in 2018 and has emerged as a consistent presence in midfield, has signed a contract extension with the club through the 2028-29 season. The deal also includes an option for 2029-30.
Fortune’s contract was set to expire after the 2026 season. Earlier in the year, Chris Henderson stated that contract discussions between Fortune and the club had been ongoing. Despite injury concerns over the past couple of seasons, he’ll remain in the fold for the next several years.
“Jay’s journey is a great example of what we hope to see from players coming through our Academy,” Henderson said in a statement. “He’s worked hard to develop every aspect of his game and has grown into a player we trust and rely on. Just as importantly, he’s developed into a true professional and, despite his age, has quickly emerged as a player with strong leadership qualities. Jay has earned the respect of his teammates through his daily approach, and we’re delighted to keep him with the club as he continues to take on an even bigger role in the years ahead.”
Fortune has logged 82 appearances for Atlanta across all competitions, including 66 in regular-season action. In 2026, he has played in 10 regular-season matches and started five of them.
He has also emerged as a member of the Trinidad and Tobago national team, having recorded 14 caps with the Soca Warriors since 2021.
