Atlanta United 2 are finally headed to the playoffs.
For the first time in club history, ATL UTD 2 have claimed a spot in the postseason. They secured passage to the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs with a 4-2 win over Orlando City B in Kissimmee on Sunday and will be the Eastern Conference’s third seed.
Sunday’s playoff-clinching win caps an already historic regular season for the 2s. Their 48 points are their highest-ever total, spanning both their USL Championship and MLS NEXT Pro eras. Arif Kovac, who scored against Orlando, finished with a club-record 20 goals to cap his Golden Boot campaign. Cameron Dunbar bagged an assist, running his record total to 13 in the process.
Atlanta United 2 now turns their attention to the playoffs, as they look to build on the momentum of their regular-season success and make a run at the club’s first-ever trophy. They’ll have the opportunity to pick their opponent for the quarterfinal round, which could be either New England Revolution II, NYCFC II, CT United FC, or the winner of the Red Bull New York II/Huntsville City 8/9 play-in match. That match is set to be held between October 16 and 18.
