It’s already been a busy summer for Atlanta United and it will only get busier with the transfer window now open. In this thread, you’ll find all of our articles on the Five Stripes’ transfer activity thus far. Click on each to read more!

Atlanta United completed a sale of Aiden McFadden to Louisville City FC. McFadden had been loaned to the USL Championship side in April, with Louisville holding a purchase option which it exercised.

charlotte already picked up ream, now there are rumors that they are swinging to bring miggy over
Oh that would be a huge fail on our part if Miggy comes back but not to us or Tata.
Gallardo back as manager at River Plate. There goes my theory that his son was here to try to lure him here as manager…
Dang, it was a long shot, but was hoping AUFC would have enough ammo in the money cannon to get him here.
Sad trombone.
Last I heard, we’re probably not getting one until winter offseason. There was a interview with Garth at some point that seemed to indicate all of the coaches he’s talked to so far don’t want to come mid-season.
Found the interview. Interview July 17 on 92.9. You can check a podcasting app for Off the Woodwork to find it.
Basically, he said because of the way the transfer window works with the various deadlines and such along with the international market that they’re heavily focusing on the player transfers basically through this month. Then they’ll deep dive on the coaching search in September and October.
That said, he also said he’s talked with some coaching candidates so far (he didn’t say how many or who) and said almost all of them want to start next year with a preseason.
So yeah. I don’t have season tickets and don’t have a chance to go often, but I pay for mls on apple, and that renewal is heavily dependent on what coach and DPs are brought in by the winter.
I get that, from a prospective coach’s perspective.
I would guess that a lot (not all) of the guys willing to jump in mid-season are probably not your top-tier coaches who can afford to wait for the right opportunity rather than feeling a need to jump on an opportunity the moment it comes available to keep their career going or try to rehab it.
I also think that a top tier coach would want a say in how we are spending that $50M.
My longshot hope is that we have a top guy in mind who has verbally agreed to come next season, and is quietly providing input to Garth and Boca on player signings.

Interesting interview with Garth Lagerwey where gave some insight as to what sort of team they’re trying to build, and their path forward with the new rules re 3 DPs and 3 u-22 vs 2 DPs and 4 u-22

Miranchuk supposedly agreed to join Atlanta, so a deal is possible by the end of the week. Now the waiting game for the visa begins
Surprisingly quiet. Looks like the Atalanta 10 is now looking doubtful. I find it perplexing that negotiations with targets were not underway as we were finalizing the outgoing transfers. From the outside looking in, it feels like the processes are very much in series, instead of in parallel. Have time with leagues cup, but the more this drags out, the less time we have to integrate them for a final push this year.
supposedly the guy wants to stay with Atalanta, but they are saying a deal is still possible

Mostly talking head wish casting, but I could support this plan:

They may have covered it in the podcast but the write up leaves out a very important thing: no need for a visa. We need replacement players now, not 3+ weeks after the trade window opens. It’s highly possible any international players we sign won’t be available until the MLS restart on Aug. 24; that gives us 9 regular season games with them.
Berhalter incoming
I hope not. But if they do, expect to see a lot of empty seats in MBS. I certainly will not attend anymore games.
We ain’t getting Klopp or any of the other huge international names so I don’t know who you think would be massively superior.
Prior head coaching experience – check
Prior experience and success in MLS – check
Middling stint at the international level then fired.
Reminds me of someone who ended up in Miami who seems to be doing alright for himself.
This entire exchange is why itโs so hard to love this fan base sometimes. People honestly seem to think Pep Guardia is going to pop over for the honor of coaching AU in MLS.
I don’t want a coach that takes a picture with fans during a game. Also, historically Berhalter teams aren’t very good at scoring goals.
Berhalter has never won a trophy as a club manager and his career winning% outside of the USMNT is just under 40%. Vastly inferior resume to Tata’s.
I donโt like Berhalterโฆ butโฆ
Berhalter > Pineda
Heck, it might also be
Valentino > Pineda
But I don’t want Valentino to get the full-time gig.
More than rumors of players, I want to see rumors of coaches. I havenโt seen anything to tell me that Valentino isnโt actually worse than Pineda other than flukey results born by individual brilliance rather than coaching.
Barco going on a 4 year deal to Moscow. Not envious of that.
Tom Bogert is also reporting that we are getting a sell-on percentage for Barco for another $3 million bringing the total from loaning/selling him to $11 million.
Add that to the haul we are already getting in guaranteed money and add-ons and are probably setting an MLS record for total sales in a window.
We haven’t even gotten to the potential purchase options or new loans for Sosa and Ibarra yet since their new seasons in Argentina are set to start in just over a week. Interestingly, Sosa is no longer listed with Racing Club on their official roster while Ibarra is listed for Rosario Central. Something could be happening.
can you recall a player to sell?
I don’t see why not
Has Wiley been confirmed with numbers?
Bogert is reporting $11 million + sell-on
Sosa is still on the Racing Club roster. They just have his name written differently. Still, we could still see purchase options exercised on them in the next 6 months.
This would be way more exciting if you could just put the transfer money wherever you wanted for player acquisition. At least they will have a sizeable war chest for DPs and what, $1.2m in TAM from the Wiley sale?
We get up to $1,215,506 in GAM per transfer unless we want to use that cash for something else, so $3.6 million GAM plus probably another $1.2 million GAM from the Barco sell-on is looking like a good haul. Everything else can be used to pay for transfer fees for DPs and U-22s.
This is a cool format
