Atlanta United announced on Monday that right-back Brooks Lennon has undergone surgery on his dislocated left shoulder. The veteran Five Stripe defender has a 4-6 month recovery time, which places his return timetable anywhere from the first couple of weeks of the 2025 season all the way out to late April or early May.
Brooks injured his shoulder early in the first leg of the playoff series between Atlanta United and Inter Miami down in Fort Lauderdale. His shoulder struck the ground hard as he appeared to land awkwardly while defending near the box, and he was immediately subbed off.
This leaves Ronald Hernandez as the likely starter through the rest of the 2024 MLS Playoffs, but Atlanta also has Matt Edwards as depth. In regard to Brooks’ near future, his current contract extends through 2025 with an option for 2026. Obviously, no one wants to see a player go down, but injuries happen, and the timing of this one is actually about as opportune as possible for Lennon and the club. He’ll spend the crucial first weeks and months of recovery through the holidays before the preseason begins after New Years. With the surgery being on his upper body, he should still be able to have limited participation as 2025 ramps up.
We wish Brooks the best of luck on his recovery!

We should honestly have a conversation with Miggy and see if he’d want to come back. He’s getting less play time at Newcastle and they’re close to hitting the ceiling for their books. But I’d be fine with a DP spot and pay whatever it takes to give this team an additional OG player to keep those inaugural season followers, following.
Just sayin’
I think it would be great to have him back, but I also wonder if he wants to come back to the MLS right now. I think he still wants to stick around in Europe to prove he can still hang with the best.
Totally get that and agree. I just think it’s worth a convo if it hasn’t been had already
just putting it here since it is the most recent article, but evidently Jim Curtain was just fired by the Union. I know the rumor was Atlanta had reached out earlier if he was interested in the HC position.
HMMMM… Would need to think up a different nick name for him. Since I loathed him as the Union manager the one I used was a bit
brashcrude… Any thoughts that don’t go x-rated?The only coaches we have a reasonable chance at landing that would piss me off more than Curtin would be Caleb Porter, Bruce Arena, and Berhalter.
well both Arena and Berhalter are with a new team already
So there is a god…?
I agree, I only mentioned his firing because there was the rumor about Atlanta approaching him about the HC position before he got fired in Philly.
Feel bad for Lennon and wish him well as he deals with his recovery and the disappointment of missing the final games of the 2024 season. Knowing Brooks’ strong work ethic and commitment to do his best for the team, I fully expect him to come back strong, fit and motivated to help ATL UTD have a great 2025 season.
100%, he’ll come back strong, no doubt
I’ve never questioned his effort. He’ll give it his best.
