It’s November 9th, and Atlanta United are still alive and kicking.
What a journey the last month has been. Atlanta has taken down the New York Red Bulls and Orlando City AND had some breaks to just barely sneak into the 9th and final postseason playoff spot. From there, a chaotic shootout win in the Wild Card over Montreal led to a Round One matchup with record setting, star-studded, Lionel Messi led Inter Miami.
And would you believe it? The series is tied and headed into Game Three.
Xande Silva’s heroic strike in the 94th minute in front of 69,500 delirious fans in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to send the Five Stipes back to Ft. Lauderdale instantly became one of the top moments in the club’s history last weekend. Now, that moment has opened the door for perhaps an even bigger one, and maybe the biggest upset in the history of the entire league- knocking out the most highlighted team to ever grace Major League Soccer.
It’s the latest in a string of must-wins for Atlanta United. In fact, the only loss Atlanta has had in the past five matches has been the only one they could afford to. The stars have rapidly aligned to end the season thus far. It feels dangerous to hope this much, but Atlanta have won in Chase Stadium already this season, and top seeds have already been knocked from the playoffs- see Red Bulls vs. Columbus. Inter Miami are still the favorites (how couldn’t they be?), but the clock hasn’t struck midnight yet on Atlanta’s Cinderella run. Rob Valentino’s not ready for it to be over. Dax McCarty isn’t ready for it to be over. I’m sure as hell not ready for it to be over.
Will the magic continue tonight in Fort Lauderdale?

MLS & AppleTV execs in melt-down…
Seriously – how do I make sure I can tickets with my fellow atl peeps I. Orlando
I haven’t seen this level of intensity from us in a freaking year! What a game! I believe!!!
Road trip to Orlando !
Will we play on 23 or 24?
Heโs still a motherfucking wall apparently.
Start building the statue of Guzan now ๐
Much rather have a statue of him over Josefโฆ
Porque no los dos?
Guuuuuuz!!!!!
ATLLLL BABY
Hell yeah!!!!!!! I donโt care what happens after this, I am so happy and proud of this team and how they fought the last part of this season! Just incredible!
Oh my goodness
Fucking. Bam.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yeahhhhhhh booooyyy !
Our boys have no idea how to see out a game
Daniel Rios is ducking killing us
7 minutes is stupid.
How the heck was that a foul?
Donโt you know?!? Touch a Miami player and itโs a foul. Thatโs the โMLS ruleโ in the playoffs. Mark my wordsโฆ there will be a penalty if Miami is losing with 3 mins to play.
Gladly proven wrong, but I was sweating!!!
Oh Sabaโฆ just sit in the corner man
Tells us all we need to knowโฆ Miami can push our GK in the back and into the net, they can slap our players in the back of the head, and zero cardsโฆ our players go in 50/50 and yellow card. This is blatant and disgusting.
The way Miami is playing, I would be as happy knocking them out as I would be if we move on.
Ugh, what kind of shot was that rios
Theyโll add 20 min of extra time to give Miami as much time as possible to score
SUPER SLIZS
ATL HOE LES GO WE ARE THE A
Hahahahahahahahaha the slizzer !
Miami should tremble, here comes Riosโฆโฆ. Hahahaha
Man imagine if we had Berry still. Game over, we win mls cup.
๐๐๐
Haha, our long track record of signing world beater strikersโฆ
Aaaaaand our break breaks down on Rios foot
F off Campana. Heโs been playing dirty since he came on
Heโs always been a piece
If nothing else, I think losing a cdm in the subs was a bad idea.
Believe fortune and mccarty were meant to be like for like
Yeah, but basically we had a midfield 3 of slisz/muyumba/mccarty swapped for slisz/fortune/miranchuk. Miranchuk isnโt going to contribute to defense as much.
Iโm starting to think gregersen might be our weak point when defending in the box. I feel like he loses his man too easily.
I donโt care if we win or lose at this point, but I hope someone on our team absolutely fโing wrecks Louis Suarezโฆ canโt stand that buck teeth little b;tch.
Oh Iโd love for Guz to just wreck him
Maybe in the last seconds of the 90+ min and we are down, Guz just says โF it, and takes a straight red on himโ. ๐
Also, I continue to question why in the world we signed miranchuk
Iโm sorry how is there no card on either campana or suarez for those anticsโฆโฆ..
That shouldโve been a yellow on campana
Because Miami are the princesses of MLS. Ridiculous.
So canpana can just push guz in the back ?
Iโm sorry, but Iโd be fighting someone if I were on our team.
Guuuuuuuuuzzzzz!
Props to Valentino to mixing formations up and flexing to find a solution considering all the injuries
And most importantly having the team reflect his never say die attitude
Thatโs why, even if we lose this one, Iโm happy how we ended this season (fighting).
Really want the win but starting the 2nd half… expectations blown out of the water.
Halftime: We have a 6-0-2 record when winning at halftime. Miami have only won twice when trailing at half…
Wheew ! What a first half !!!
I am drinking way too fast ๐
You’re well set up to celebrate the glory or wallow in the misery. Keep it going!
The pitch in Miami looks like trash.
We are doing this with only one DP on the field
While it could be viewed as a good thing, itโs also just representative of the utter failure of our FO
Theyโre definitely keeping it interesting
is that not simulation?
Nah, totally reasonable to fall in that situation. Itโd be simulation if he tried to milk it.
Hernandez is having some issues this game
BRILLIANT 2-1
Boom. Again.
Holy hell !
Fucking boom!
Unpoop!
Poop
what a start
Stupid post
Improvise , adapt , overcome !
Would love to have Greg in the backโฆ
FEA LES GO AND WIN THIS THANG
I wonder why Muyumba is getting the start ahead of Fortune tonight.
Probably because of Fortune picking up that injury last game.
Crush your enemies
See them driven before you
Hear the lamentation of their supporters
Georgia Tech, a team in Atlanta, beat the Miami Hurricanes- a team in Miami. Miami was 9-0 and undoubted the favorites to win. Maybe, two Atlanta teams can beat two Miami teams. GT’s win ought to give us hope.
Vamos Atlanta!
Apparently Busquets will be back in the lineup for this match, not likely ATL will be overrunning the midfield like the match at the Benz.Taking the few chances well will be the key, the counter attacking in the last match in Ft Lauderdale was just terrible. Anything can happen, and if it were to got to penalties it’s coin flip.
Even if Busquets returns tonight, I doubt he is 90 min fit. And I would not be surprised if this match goes to PKs
Especially because there was the rumor it was a knock + possible pneumonia
