Edwin Mosquera drawing loan interest from 3 Colombian clubs, per report

Edwin Mosquera is under contract with Atlanta United through 2025 — with an option for 2026 — but a loan deal to a club in the 23-year-old’s native Colombia could be in the works for next season.

According to Bogota-based journalist Mariano Olsen, Mosquera is “on the radar” of three teams in Colombia’s top flight: Atlético Nacional, Junior, and Millonarios. Millonarios are first in Quadrangular A of the Clausura and one point clear of Atlético Nacional through five matches; Junior are in second in Quadrangular B, two points behind Once Caldas.

Per Olsen, while no formal offers have been made yet, the loan could include an option to buy.

Mosquera signed for Atlanta in July 2022 from Independiente Medellín as a U22 initiative player, appearing in 12 matches (starting once) and posting a pair of assists. In February 2023, he was loaned to Defensa y Justicia in Argentina but was recalled five months later, registering four starts across 12 appearances while adding 3g/1a.

He made 22 appearances and started five times in 2024 while posting 1g/2a, but a left meniscus injury kept him off the field for two different stretches, one from mid-June to late July and the other in October, leading to eventual surgery. His last appearance of the season was against the New York Red Bulls on October 5.

If Mosquera is loaned out, he would still hold a U22 slot unless he is sold.

It’s been quiet for Atlanta over the past few days, but with a half-day trade window scheduled for Dec. 9, the MLS Expansion Draft on Dec. 11, and the opening of free agency on Dec. 12 — not to mention an ongoing head coach and general manager search — things are set to heat up shortly.

I’m not sure you rush to make this move yet. He has been frustrating between stretches of poor form and injuries, but he has also shown glimpses of real quality. I don’t see these teams coming with an offer that compels you to jump. Let the new coach weigh in because there is enough talent there that warrants another chance.

schyoo

How would he hold a U22 spot when he is now 23?

Clueless Joe

You know it’s an MLS rule when someone 24 can be considered under 22.

Need him to be sold, not just loaned. Open up that U22 slot and not get into the same situation you had with Ibarra. Perfectly fine with him going.
