After 4 seasons at Stanford University, Will Reilly is coming home.
Atlanta United has officially announced the signing of the former Atlanta United Academy midfielder and ex-Atlanta United 2 player to a homegrown contract through the 2025 season with options from 2026-28.
“Will joined the Academy in 2016 and worked his way through the development pipeline before going to college at Stanford University,” Academy Director Javier Perez said in a statement. “We’ve continued to follow his development at Stanford where he has started every match for the past three seasons. He’s a versatile midfielder who can play box-to-box or in a more holding role. We are excited to welcome him back to the club and see him begin his professional career here.”
Reilly, 22, recently completed his four-year college career at Stanford, where he recorded 11 goals and 17 assists in 75 matches. He also made 35 appearances for Atlanta United 2 in the USL Championship between 2019-21.
A highly technical player, Reilly excels at playing line-breaking passes and delivering set pieces. Although he first played as a defensive midfielder, he transitioned to more of a box-to-box role at Stanford and has excelled.

we now have a glut of midfielders, assuming the deal for Klich goes through as rumored. Would Reily get loaned out to play with the 2s for the season or will he get actual playing time with the first team
Adyn Torres looks like he’s staying at Porto, so Reilly would fill his spot as depth at the No.6 spot. With that, there is actually decent depth at both No.6 and No.8 positions. Keep in mind there are multiple competitions ATL will have to worry about (MLS, OC, Leagues Cup…) and will need the depth for them.
would we be selling Torres to Porto, or would it be a loan?
Transfer
Still too early to get too much about the Open Cup but MLS has committed to participating in it.
This new leadership group says they intend to compete in multiple competitions per season. That suggests a renewed interest in the US Open Cup. That said, expect our kids and reserves to play the early rounds to build experience.
Same thoughts, the Klich deals looks even sillier with this move unless we’re basically getting him from DC as a pseudo roster buyout with them covering almost his entire salary.
That’s exactly what’s happening
Yep, saw that right after posting this ðŸ«
