Manchester City to hold youth soccer camps in Atlanta

Manchester City, one of the world’s biggest clubs, will be in town for their second group stage match against Emirati club Al Ain at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup later this month. However, before that, the club will be at Oglethorpe University hosting a Young Player Development Program.

For the first time, the 10-time English Premier League Champions will be hosting youth camps in the Atlanta area as part of the club’s goal to grow youth soccer around the world. This summer’s camp is for boys and girls between the ages of 8-15 and will be split into two five-day sessions: June 9-13 and June 16-20. The sessions will consist of high-level training led by official Manchester City coaches who will be applying the club’s renowned philosophy. The main goal of these camps is to provide young soccer players a taste of what it would be like to train at the Manchester City Academy.

Although this is the first camp the club hosts in Atlanta, Manchester City has had a sustained presence in the United States in recent years. It partners with MLS club New York City FC to deliver similar camps throughout the summer in New York. It will also host the 10th edition of the Manchester City Cup this August, where hundreds of youth teams from around the world will compete in San Diego.

With the construction of the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center and its hosting of major tournaments such as the FIFA Club World Cup and next year’s FIFA World Cup, Atlanta has quickly become a growing hotbed for soccer in North America. As a result, sources within Manchester City have expressed that the club hopes to establish a continued presence in Atlanta with these camps over the coming years.

According to a club spokesperson, about 200 children are expected to participate in all of the club’s camps this summer across cities like Dallas, TX, Middletown, CT, Boston, MA, Providence, RI and Washington, D.C.
