Another nearly two week long break has come and gone, and Atlanta United is back in action tonight. Did you miss it? Yeah… I didn’t think so.
Like it or not, the Five Stripes are hitting the road once again, this time visting the fourth in the conference Crew in Columbus, Ohio for some Wednesday night MLS action. Things aren’t exactly looking up, given the heavy 4-0 defeat back on June 12th against NYCFC and two long term injuries to Derrick Williams (out 3 weeks) and Jay Fortune (sigh, the rest of the season) that have added to an already brutal bill of health for Atlanta this season.
Hopefully, the two weeks of rest will have bolstered the active members of the Atlanta United squad, putting some distance between them and the previous 18 matches of the season that have the team in 13th place in the East. They’ll need every bit of help they can get- the Crew most recently handed Vancouver just their second league loss of the year, pulling off a 2-1 result at Lower.com Field after scoring in just the second minute to ultimately stun the league leaders. Columbus maybe hasn’t been quite as dominant as their previous two seasons, but are still right up there with the rest of the Eastern Conference’s elites, even more so when playing on home turf.
As for Atlanta’s injury report- it isn’t good. A total of six players are all listed as out, but Edwin Mosquera is not one of them as he rejoins following an adductor injury. Nyk Sessock is also back with the squad on another Short-Term Agreement, his second straight after making a debut appearance late on at Yankee Stadium. I’ll spare y’all the typing and add the list below:

Ronny Deila will have some limited options in the backline and central midfield, two areas that definitely did not need to take hits coming up against players like Darlington Nagbe, Diego Rossi, and Daniel Gazdag.
All we can look for is improvement. That, and thank Inter Miami for progressing in the Club World Cup and postponing Saturday’s match to make this terrifying double game week a slightly less scary single game week. Hey, maybe the midweek magic will work this time? Who knows? Atlanta even won the last meeting between the two sides, thanks to a come from behind Stian Gregersen brace. Anything’s possible. (Just maybe not that again, because, y’know, injuries.)

Iโd rather stay 3-0. Fuck you brooks. Iโm trashed because of the backpass drinking game
Oh, shit, that’s a dangerous game to play with this bunch.
Reilly for Klich. That should fix it.
I actually hate this team. There is nothing redeeming about anything with them.
Truly a master class in how to kill off a fanbase.
Remember how many people used to post on dirty South? I feel bad for these dudes. Team has turned from shit to worse shit since these guys took over. Not there’s like seven of us.
What ever became of Marcelo?
We’re not good anymore, so he’s largely lost interest.
Can’t wait to see how Garth tries to spin the look of this team when STM renewal time comes next month because we certainly have not been back baby!!!!!!
Garth cooked a pile of shit
Just give him 2-3 more windowsโฆโฆโฆ.,,,
Time for new leadership.
This coach doesnโt make adjustments wat the heck man weโre getting killed he just standing there
Embarrassing again. Until we fix the defense, it will not matter how many good attackers we have or need.
Good attackers actually finish.
This team is garbage ๐คฎ
This back 5 ainโt it man do some tactical changes Delia. Crew is tearing us apart should be 3-0 right now
And it is 3-0
curious as to what Cobb has done that he is now behind Morales and Edwards in the CB depth. I guess he is good enough for US U20 team, but not good enough for Atlanta?
What did Saba do to get sidelined for MF Brooks Lennon?? Did he shag Deliaโs s/o or something?
Did Deila even watch the last match? Iโm at a loss here
Saba is even a better defender than Lennon…..
I hope he knows that he can resign. He doesn’t have to purposely try to get fired.
A reminder we could have lived in a timeline where we got Nancy as a coach, if only we didn’t decide to rush into Pineda.
*Sigh
I guess that minor hamstring injury for Gregersen was anything other than minor.
How many months has he been out now?
I’m so confused, they said 1 month and it has been like 3 if not more. I’ve never seen a recovery, for any injury, take so much longer than anticipated, especially for something so seemingly minor.
Not sure there’s a lot of motivation to come back and join in this dumpster fire.
67 days now..
Who will make the bone-headed defensive play that directly leads to a goal this match?
Probably Miggy again, or Edwards.
Lennon has entered the chat.
Marcelo Herrera
Edwards and Morales giving a clinic on how to give it away in the final third.
I am guessing if we keep the 3 CB set up. It will be Abram, Cobb, and Edwards. Although I would switch Morales for Edwards, but that probably won’t happen.
