Atlanta United at D.C. United: Match Thread and How to Watch

Atlanta United midfielder Tristan Muyumba #8 during the first half of the match against the D.C. United at Audi Field in Washington, on Wednesday June 19, 2024.

I’ll start with the not so great news.

Atlanta United is taking the field once again after a ten day break to recover from a disastrous first half and resulting loss in Columbus. The Five Stripes have lost their last three matches with a combined score of 1-9. They’ll travel to the nation’s capital on this Fourth of July weekend to face a D.C. United team that now has Christian Benteke back from injury and ready to play. Meanwhile, Bartek Slisz is out due to yellow card accumulation. The team’s newest signing, center back Enea Mihaj, won’t be available until later this month.

Yeesh. That’s a lot.

As for good news? Atlanta’s injury list got slightly shorter, with the team welcoming back Tristan Muyumba and Cayman Togashi from knee injuries. Also, they’ve got D.C. and Toronto next week to close out a seven week stretch of away matches, giving the Five Stripes the best opportunity possible to make up some ground on the teams immediately above them in the conference table.

Matches after bye weeks and breaks haven’t normally gone Atlanta’s way historically, but maybe things can click this time at Audi Field? D.C. United is even worse than Atlanta over their last three matches, outscored 10-1 by the likes of Chicago (who, to be fair, scored seven), RSL, and Nashville.

We’ll find out come kickoff time in Washington, which is set for a 7:40 PM ET start. Streaming per usuall will be from Apple TV with a subscription to MLS Season Pass. Radio coverage is provided in English on 92.9 The Game and in Spanish on La Mejor.

Atl sucks

Fire trash ass Delia

Bananatoes

+1 , clean sheet , offensively embarrassing

Footie404

Just offensive, really.

Igor

Yall were better last year with the interim manager than whatever the hell this is lol

Bananatoes

I swear – these mf-ers have one shot on goal yet continue to try to dribble into the goal while trying to make 5 passes inside the 18. One of you holes needs to actually shoot the ball

Colt42

Calling that one a shot is generous

Bananatoes

What the hell Latte – will you ever finish something ?

Igor

No. But according to some in this chat โ€œhe doesnโ€™t get ANY serviceโ€ lol

ShortRound_RB

So I didnโ€™t watch the first half at all, mildly interested in tuning in. How was it?

Elemess

Mildly interesting.

ShortRound_RB

I’m amazed at how well that managed to describe everything I saw.

Bananatoes

0.02 xG at the half – this must be an all time DC defense

Bananatoes

Perfect cross by Lennon – somehow Latte Lath misses the tap in

Also, this field is really crappy, did DC get a lot of rain today?

Mic

Lots of recent games on that field.

ricop001

This team and player play uninspiring shitty ball..we have B or possible C team players starting..we cannot get ball out the back..and have not skill player to take it and turn up field

schyoo

after looking over the lineup for a bit, maybe the 3-5-2 formation is more an attacking formation, while we might be defending in a 4-4-2 formation, with Lennon shifting to a RB position and Amador is a LB…

schyoo

correction, on the broadcast, they are saying we are running a 4-2-3-1

ShortRound_RB

lineup announced, not sure what to think of it. At least they’re trying new stuff? I kinda doubt it’ll actually be a 3-5-2, looks more like a 4-2-3-1, assuming Miggy will play winger. But also, I don’t know how Lennon and Abram continue to start for this team, even with the injury shortages.

Edit: I also didn’t tune in to the last game, like at all, so I don’t know if this lineup is actually all that different. I just know the score was the usual, and vaguely heard something about Morales being left to be the hero by the rest of the defense.

Morales did not look good during the limited time I spent watching last match. Which makes it all more sad that Cobb can’t start with so many injuries.

schyoo

what a bizarre back 3. Amador, Abram, Morales. I guess this means Cobb has officially be dropped behind Morales…

Questions : will AU play up to its potential? Or will it continue to be the most under-performing team of MLS? Inquiring minds want to know.

Bananatoes

The article is informative on HOW to watch the game. Sadly I am trying to find out the WHY I would want to watch the game. To watch the marvels of the third highest paid player in the league, Invisible Miggy? To find out who will be this weeks guest star on โ€œCentering pass to the Opponentโ€ ? To watch ELL not do anything with the few chances he does manage to get?

I am dumb so I will watch in hopes of seeing some of the younger players ( Reilly Morales Edwards Cobb ) play.

Matt5931

If an Atl Utd game happens in DC and no one sees itโ€ฆ does it actually happen?

CelticBhoy

Hit the nail on the head with this one buddy
