Paris Saint-Germain struck for two late goals — one from Desire Doué with 10 minutes remaining and the other from Ousmane Dembélé with his team down to nine men — in a thrilling 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in a Club World Cup quarterfinal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday afternoon. PSG will take on either Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals on Wednesday at MetLife Stadium.
PSG’s breakthrough came in the 80th minute, as Doué’s left-footed strike from just beyond the box saw Manuel Neuer forced to watch as the ball sailed into the back of the net.
It came rather against the run of play against Bayern Munich, who had several opportunities to get on the scoreboard but were unable to do so, even after red cards to PSG’s Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez.
But PSG, despite playing 9v11 in the latter stages, closed the match out to claim a spot in the Club World Cup semifinals. It was able to add an exclamation point despite facing a 2-man disadvantage as Dembélé made it 2-0 on a brilliant strike inside the scoring area.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich was forced to substitute Jamal Musiala at halftime as the midfielder collided with Gianluigi Donnarumma and suffered an ankle injury.
