Edwin Mosquera’s long-awaited move from Atlanta United to Millonarios has been completed, with the winger announced by the club in his native Colombia as being brought in on a one-year loan with an option to buy.
Mosquera initially joined Atlanta from Independiente Medellin in 2022 as a U-22 Initiative player, appearing in 12 games that season. In 2023, he was loaned to Defensa y Justicia, eventually returning to Atlanta about halfway through the season as he scored 3 goals with the Five Stripes.
He saw his most significant time with Atlanta in 2024, appearing in 22 matches while starting 5 and providing 1g/2a. In 2025, he had appeared in 10 matches while posting just a goal in 147 minutes.
Now, he returns home to Colombia, brought into Millonarios’s setup as he looks to ignite a career that hasn’t quite seen him take the next step. His contract was set to end at the end of the 2025 season, with Atlanta holding an option for 2026.
It also opens up another U22 slot for Atlanta. According to MLS rules, “to remove a U22 Initiative Slot classification, a club may: transfer the player out of MLS, remove the player from a U22 Initiative Slot using Targeted Allocation Money or General Allocation Money, loan the player outside of MLS, utilize one of its two Buyouts, or transition the player to a Designated Player slot”.

His pace is/was tantalizing, then you watch him play the ball. He did have a couple nice highlight goals, but those were few and far between. He dribbles like he went to Gyasi Zardes First Touch Camp.
Silva now Mosquera. Diela has even tried fortune as a winger who is now injured. With Miggy not working on the right and Saba being unimpressive this season I can only imagine we are bringing in a winger very soon, right?
I would have to think so, even if only a backup player. I still think they need to consider moving Miranchuk, bringing Miggy central, putting Saba back on the right, and getting a LW.
They also need a CDM, and I’d start looking to move off Brooks Lennon. His lack of creativity and technical ability is starting to show. He’s always been a liability on defense, but now he’s contributing to our stagnation on offense.
Another bad signing…..
Good luck to him. I’m sure he wanted to succeed here, it just didn’t happen.
I guess this means he will come back to us next summer if the CO doesn’t want him?
If we don’t exercise the option at the end of 2025, he’s gone for good – and unless they agree to buy, we shouldn’t exercise the option (even if it means a financial loss). He never fit with the squad, and certainly isn’t anything beyond a late game substitute.
Hope he does well so we never have to see him play here again.
at least that will open up a bit more regular playing time for Brennan. Hopefully Mosquera plays well with the team, so they decide to buy so we can get some money out of the deal.
For me, this is the biggest development for the remainder of the year. Open up minutes for other young homegrown players to prove themselves. Brennan specifically needs to get some minutes.
Dang right after we gained all that momentum from our first road game clean sheet.
I thought I smelled sarcasm this afternoon. It was coming from here.
Good he didn’t seem to want to be here. He had feet of stone.
