Atlanta United sends Noah Cobb on loan to Colorado Rapids

Atlanta United continues to chisel away, further fine-tuning its roster during this summer transfer window in a manner that’ll likely placate just about everyone who called for the “burn it all down” approach. This time the move comes for young Noah Cobb, one of the most highly rated young players on the squad, who’ll be making a loan trip out to Colorado Rapids.

The deal lasts through the end of the 2025 season in exchange for $100,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM). Colorado has a purchase option, and if they exercise that clause Atlanta United would receive more GAM and a future percentage of a sell-on fee.

The young center back is yet another move involving Atlanta United’s back line, which has recently seen the departure another young talent in Efrain Morales and the addition of veterans Enea Mihaj and Juan Berrocal. You can follow the entire transfer saga via our summer 2025 transfer tracker here.

Noah played 35 MLS matches with 21 starts, a handy number for a guy who just turned 20 and was described a couple of years ago by former Atlanta United technical director Carlos Bocanegra as “having future national team captain written all over him.” He’s also been a frequenter of the U.S. U-19 and U-20 squads, the latter of which he helped qualify for the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup which will be held this September down in Chile.

Let us know down below what you think of the match!

Best of luck, Noah!

[…] As Atlanta United fans await news of the first new signing under Tata Martino, we have an update on Noah Cobb’s loan. […]

[…] Morales may be gone and Cobb’s future with the club is uncertain, Prince could still add a great deal of experience, atheticism, and raw power to a centerback room […]

VAMOS ATLANTA

Liked it until I read “with buy option.” I get that we just got two centerbacks, and when you put that with Gregersen coming back (hopefully), Cobb would be likely to get very limited playing time. That’s why I would be fine with him being loaned out for a couple months to get some more playing time. Personally, I’m not willing to let him go, or even give another team the chance to do so. We should be investing in the future but instead, it seems as if our FO would like to sell it away.

Well the purchase option doesn’t normally mean they automatically buy him at a set price at the end of the loan, but Colorado will get first dibs to make an offer and Atlanta would still have to accept the buy offer.

schyoo

well I am wrong. I guess the purchase option cost could be high and I would assume we would still retain future sell-on rights

Every move screams of “win now” desperation. Which I’m fine with

Except we can’t win now. This season is toast.

ShortRound_RB

I’d be looking critically for more wins the rest of this year not for the sake of winning anything, but for the sake of proving that these new players will make a difference and I can have any hope of next season being worth paying attention to.
At the very least stop giving up so many goals. Especially the dumb ones.

Also, I feel pretty confident in saying that the “burn it all down” comments were directed at the veterans earning the mintutes that demonstrated very little, not the young, promising players that need their chance. Instead, we are left with a contract extension for Brooks Lennon, WTF!

ShortRound_RB

They haven’t announced anything about Brooks have they? I’ll actually be pissed off if this happens.
