Atlanta United vs. Seattle Sounders: Takeaways from a dramatic yet meaningless draw

Atlanta United appeared destined for another loss at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but a late golazo from Alexey Miranchuk in the ninth minute of stoppage time staked them to a 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders.

The good news is that Atlanta didn’t lose. The bad news is that one point doesn’t do much for them in the standings: they’re still 14 points out of a playoff spot with 10 matches to go.

We did see another solid outing from Luke Brennan, who hit the woodwork and later saw a goal correctly called offside in the first half. Enea Mihaj also made his MLS debut and looked good in the time that he was on the pitch. We also saw Stian Gregersen make his return to the lineup for the first time in three months and have an up-and-down evening. And, of course, some defensive lapses saw the Sounders erase a 1-0 Atlanta lead and eventually jump ahead before Miranchuk found the back of the net.

Henry and Jackson have their three takeaways as Atlanta’s winless streak reaches eight matches.
