Atlanta’s beautiful Mercedes-Benz Stadium already hosted some of the best teams in the world during the FIFA Club World Cup, and on Sunday, it was the venue of two exciting clashes featuring four Premier League clubs.
Regarded as one of the best leagues in the world, the Premier League kicks off its 2025-26 season in just 12 days with champions Liverpool hosting AFC Bournemouth on Friday, Aug. 15.
As the clubs finish their preparations for the upcoming season, here is all of the action from two thrilling matches in Atlanta.
Game 1: AFC Bournemouth vs. West Ham United
The Cherries were on the front foot early in the first half, getting the ball into very good positions and getting some very close looks at goal, but the ball just wouldn’t go in for them. Possibly their best chance came when Evanilson received a low cross that should have been an easy tap-in. Instead, the Brazilian striker smacked the post with his effort, missing a golden opportunity to take the lead.
If you don’t score them, you watch them get scored. Bournemouth learned that the hard way as Jarrod Bowen cut the ball back to Niclas Füllkrug for a simple finish to open the scoring for West Ham after 24 minutes.
The Hammers pushed to extend their lead in the second half and got their due reward in the 67th minute when Jarrod Bowen stabbed home a cross aimed at the edge of the six-yard box to put West Ham up 2-0.
Despite plenty of persistence from Bournemouth, they couldn’t get on the scoresheet, and the first match of the night ended 2-0 to the Hammers.
Game 2: Manchester United vs. Everton
The evening’s main attraction started off with a bang as both teams went back and forth and generated some solid early chances. A very quick sequence of touches put Amad Diallo through on goal until Everton captain James Tarkowski brought him down inside the box. The referee pointed to the spot and Bruno Fernandes calmly converted the penalty to put the Red Devils ahead in the 19th minute.
But the Toffees weren’t going down without a fight. The Merseyside club fought back and found an equalizer through Idrissa Gana Gueye, who hit a beautiful volley into the bottom corner in the 40th minute.
The thrills continued in the second half as Mason Mount helped United forge ahead once again with a beautiful shot placed in the top corner to make it 2-1.
But the lead lasted merely minutes as Everton ventured forward and were able to force an own goal off of Ayden Heaven in the 75th minute.
With both sides desperate to grab a winner, the excitement continued until the very end, but ultimately neither side could get the edge, and the match ended 2-2.
With seven points accumulated after two wins and a draw in this tournament, Manchester United were crowned the winners of the 2025 Premier League Summer Series.
