After acquiring a new center back pairing, the Five Stripes have now bolstered their midfield.
Atlanta United has signed midfielder Steven Alzate from EFL Championship side Hull City on a TAM deal through 2030.
Alzate, 26, has 12g/18a in 172 appearances after spending time at various clubs including Brighton and Hove Albion and Standard Liège in Belgium, where he played under Atlanta United Head Coach Ronny Deila.
Though he was born in London, Alzate represents Colombia at the international level, earning seven caps with the senior national team.

Does anyone know about visa status or when he would be training/available for selection?
Well they can’t start training until they receive their visa. We are still waiting to hear about Berrocal’s visa and Atlanta announced his loan early last week. I would assume that once we hear Berrocal training with the team, Alzate should not be too far behind. Berrocal, last played 05/24, so he will probably need some build up. Alzate, last played 04/26, so he will probably need longer time then Berrocal.
I just don’t know anymore, I’m tired of watching this B- players, why they don’t bring a class A player. This team has no game, no coach and there is not even one player that stands out. I don’t see the game of the coach on the field, nothing that you can say I know what he’s doing. Very frustrating.
I saw Alzate play for Swindon back in 2018 – so take this with a pinch of “a lot of time has gone by since” – but he looked a class above our squad that season and every bit a player who would make Premier League appearances. He went on to break into the Brighton squad and never looked out of place in the top division. I’d suggest he was more a deep lying playmaker type than out and out destroyer. Very good technically, reminded me of James Milner (who also played on loan for Swindon). Yes, he is not going to break the speed barrier, but he knows where to be and how to play. Having watched Atlanta for the last 8 years, he’s more than capable of improving the team – granted, that is also not that hard right now. He will keep possession, act as a distributor, but above all else, will bring good football know how. The thing missing from Lennon’s brain.
I want to believe, but this season has sucked all of the optimism out of me. I want to believe these new CBs and Alzata will shore up some of our defensive issues and help with our play out of the back under pressure. I’m just going to need to see it before I believe it.
It does feel like the attack is finally finding some semblance of organization. The end product is still not where it needs to be, but at least we look like we’ve played together when we go forward now. What a mess this season has been…if you squint, it looks like we are kind of okay at attacking..
Until he is playing regularly, he is just another guy our stellar scouting staff has signed.
One of the common themes lately amongst fans has been this desire for players to not only have an impact after the summer window, but then also again into the next season. That consistency has to be found.
Obviously it doesnt matter unless he proves it on the field, but I would actually frame this quite differently.
I think he may be the first player in Atl Utd history to have played for our current manager elsewhere? One of the few at least.
Not exactly just another attempt by our front office to play moneyball and just hope it works out.
Well… Miggy 2017 comes to mind. Then I guess Almada was supposed to have been but Heinze got fired, and the hire took longer than expected. And then Alonzo, but then again, Gonzalo wasn’t really his coach, necessarily. So yeah, one of the few for sure.
I hope it works out. I’m in big favor of giving the coach a voice in player selection.
Can he play CB? Because that’s what we ask other midfield and wing players to do
Took them long enough. That is a pretty long contract, so hopefully it works out. Now we see how long it takes for him to get his visa…
