Atlanta United director of high performance Dave Tenney has left for a position with Real Salt Lake, the club announced today. Tenney had only arrived in Atlanta in December 2024 from Austin FC, where he spent four years. He served as the Seattle Sounders’ director of sports science from 2009 to 2017, where he worked under Garth Lagerwey for several seasons before heading to the Orlando Magic.
Interestingly, as part of the move, Atlanta will receive compensation from RSL. Scarves and Spikes can confirm that the specific amount is $100,000 in GAM.
Chris Henderson, on Wednesday, mentioned that Atlanta United was working on expanding its sports science department. However, Tenney, a noted expert in that area across MLS and the sports world as a whole, won’t be a part of that moving forward following his departure from the club.
Dr. R Amadeus Mason will lead Atlanta United’s medical department in the interim.

Well, based on our recent past……good riddance.
Obviously there was no “high performance”
Theres a joke somewhere about “Director of High Performance” being a massive oxymoron but I’m too dispirited to write it.
“Amadeus, Amadeus..”
Who else had that start playing in their head when they read who the replacement would be?
