(UPDATE, Jan. 19) It’s official: Edwin Mosquera is now a Santa Fe player. The U22 spot he occupied on Atlanta United’s roster is now open.
(Original report, 1/16) Edwin Mosquera has spent the last six months on loan at Millionarios. Those days, and his time with Atlanta United, could be nearing an end.
According to multiple reports out of Colombia, the Atlanta United winger is set to terminate his contract with Millonarios and will sign for Santa Fe on a full transfer. Colombian journalist Carlos Aleman was first to report the news, with Independiente’s president, Eduardo Mendez, revealing to Win Sports that Mosquera is “undergoing medical exams” with the club.

Should the reports materialize, it will end what’s been nothing short of a disappointing partnership between Atlanta United and the 24-year-old.
Mosquera arrived from Independiente Medellin in June 2022 on a four-year contract as a U22 Initiative player. But he never came close to his potential outside of a spurt or two of positive play. In 12 matches and one start with Atlanta in 2022, he recorded just two assists. Ahead of the 2023 season, he was loaned out to Argentine outfit Defensa y Justicia but was recalled five months later, scoring four goals with Atlanta in 15 matches across all competitions.
After just two goals and two assists across 32 appearances over the next two seasons, though, Atlanta loaned him out a second time, this time to Millonarios, where he has yet to register a goal or assist.
This would obviously open up a U22 slot for Atlanta. They’ve already brought in Tomás Jacob on a U22 deal and are on the verge of doing the same for Elías Baez. It’s not out of the question to see the third slot used on a winger that will offer more than Mosquera did. That could cause a domino effect that leads to the club parting ways with Saba Lobjanidze, who struggled to match the form he enjoyed in 2024.

Thank God another FO bust finally off the books.
edwin’s was really, really good at running fast in a straight line. any deviation from that was a coin flip at best.
Good for him and good on the team to find another team willing to take him. I do wonder if Tata could have unlocked his ability. Mosquera does seem like a player Tata would like.
My guess is that as good as Tata is, Mosquera’s improvement would have been minimal, and we are right to have moved on from him. Congrats to the FO for getting it done now rather than waiting until his contract expired this summer.
Yeah, Mosquera turns 25 this summer and will be on his 7th club since 2021 with this move. I feel like the pace and effort are there but the technical skill and decision making just never got there. I do hope he finds success at his new club, but I’m glad he’ll be gone.
No thanks. Good riddance.
About time.
Good…we should have moved on from him a while back.
