With Atlanta United looking for a No. 6 after the sale of Bartosz Slisz, it may be looking to bring in a veteran South American who’s currently in the Premier League.
According to journalist Germán García Grova, Atlanta has submitted an offer for West Ham midfielder and former Argentina international Guido Rodríguez. Rodríguez has been with the East London outfit since August 2024 after he signed for them on a free transfer after four seasons with Real Betis.
Rodríguez has played in six games for the Hammers this season as he’s all but fallen out of the plans of manager Nuno Espírito Santo. From 2017 to 2024, he collected 30 caps on the international level and played in a pair of World Cups, starting in La Albiceleste‘s group stage match against Mexico in their run up to the title in 2022.
A product of the River Plate academy, Rodríguez made his professional debut in 2014 before being loaned out to Defensa y Justicia in 2016. He then joined Liga MX, spending a season with Tijuana before four seasons with Club América.
Initial reports, including from Fabrizio Romano, stated that Rodríguez was set to return to the Spanish top flight in the form of a loan deal to Valencia. However, that move looks as if it might be off the table due to what’s being termed by Grova as “economic differences”, with Atlanta reportedly keen to acquire his services outright.

yeah – it looks like we may have been used as a bargaining tool

West Ham is also on the brink of relegation too so they may be more incentivized to move people. Get this guy on a 2/3 year contract right in his CDM prime and I think we have a solid midfield.
Finally the nagbe replacement. Now all we need is the gressel replacement
Very solid veteran midfielder with high level experience and more than enough football ahead of him at 31. Seems like a solid move if we can make this work as a TAM deal. Not sure why we do not go after more free transfers.
Good free transfers usually demand a high salary.
He’s 31 and clearly on the downhill slope.
This is supposed to fill the role of grizzled, experienced destroyer CDM, like Larentowicz. Jeff was 32 when he signed on for us in 2017.
In other words, 31 is exactly the age we’re looking for in this position.
Well, there is that! 😁
