New to Atlanta? MARTA is the city’s public transit system with trains and buses. This guide shows you exactly how to get from the airport to Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Atlanta by train. One ride costs $2.50.

How the Train System Works

MARTA has four colored train lines: Red, Gold, Blue, and Green.

The Red and Gold lines run north and south. They connect the airport to downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead. This is where most hotels are located, though there are many around Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Blue and Green lines run east and west. They go to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but also run east to other locations that are great for visitors, like Inman Park and Decatur.

All four lines meet at one station called Five Points. This is the main hub. If you need to switch from one line to another, you do it here.

The Rail Map

Here is a simplified view of how the train lines connect:

From the Airport

Follow signs inside the airport for “Ground Transportation” and then “MARTA.” The train station is inside the terminal. You do not need to go outside.

Before you ride, buy a Breeze Card from the machines near the platform. The card costs $2. Add money for your rides ($2.50 each). For a few days of travel, add $10 or $20.

Get on any train. From the airport, all trains go north into the city on the Red or Gold line.

If you are going to your hotel first, exit at the station closest to where you are staying. Some of the more popular areas are shown here:

  • Downtown hotels: Peachtree Center or Five Points
  • Midtown hotels: Midtown or Arts Center
  • Buckhead hotels: Buckhead or Lenox

From Anywhere to the Stadium

In almost every case, you just need to get to Five Points first.

At Five Points, follow signs for the Blue or Green line going west (toward Hamilton E. Holmes or Bankhead). Get on whichever train comes first.

Ride two stops to Vine City. This is the best station for the stadium. Exit and walk across the covered pedestrian bridge. It takes you directly to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The other nearby station is Sports, Entertainment and Convention (SEC) District (formerly the GWCC/CNN station), which is one stop before Vine City. This works too, but Vine City tends to be somewhat easier.

Getting Back

To return to your hotel or the airport, reverse the trip.

From Vine City, take the Blue or Green line east to Five Points. Then transfer to the Red or Gold line going north (for most hotels) or south (for the airport).

If you are going to the airport, make sure the train sign says “Airport.” Not all trains go there late at night.
