Atlanta United vs New England Revolution: Match Thread and How to Watch

“It helps that we have another game, it probably wouldn’t be best to have another home game.”

Well, Tata, that makes two of us. It’s not up to me though, or him, or even you. Instead, the MLS schedule waits for no one, and it’s time for yet another Atlanta United matchday: midweek edition. Brace yourselves.

New England has won three league matches in a row, four total if you include their shootout victory in the Open Cup as the visiting home side against Rhode Island (but that’s a topic in itself). It’s been a favorable schedule; home matches against Montreal, D.C, and Columbus lean towards the lower end of a weaker Eastern Conference. Atlanta is the latest and lowest ranked in line for the Revs over the past few weeks. They’ve shown killer goalscoring ability, averaging two goals per match and even dropping six on FC Cincinnati when they met last month.

Atlanta’s story so far has been quite the opposite. They’ve played D.C. and Columbus at home, winning against neither. They’ve scored six goals all year, tied for second to last in the league. Yes, New England scored the same amount in a single game as Atlanta United has through eight. Hard to believe, I know. Instead of three consecutive wins, try three MLS losses, and scoring in only one of those. It has never been so brutal for this club.

I’d advise a deep breath before we check out some head-to-head stats, courtesy of stats.scarvesandspikes.com:

So… that looks bad. That’s because it is. For a teeny tiny minor dose of optimism, New England has lost all three of their away matches thus far. Do I expect that to help Atlanta out in any way? No, not really. Unless the Five Stripes finally figure out a way to put the ball in the back of the net, Carles Gil and the Revs will get to put a stop to that run.

In the midst of a busy six matches in three weeks schedule crunch across all competitions, maybe the best thing Atlanta can do is put their heads back down and keep moving. Maybe it’s the only thing.

โ€œYes, weโ€™re going to keep trying. In any case, weโ€™re going to keep trying, surely. The only thing weโ€™re not going to do is stop trying,” said Tata Martino following Saturday’s loss.

The Five Stripes’ latest attempt will again be without Miguel Almiron or Steven Alzate on the pitch. Tomรกs Jacob is also on the injury list after suffering an injury against Nashville, but carrying on through the remainder of the match. He’s listed as questionable, which would be a tough blow for Atlanta should he not be able to feature. Then again, it’s likely we see at least some rotation given the afternoon trip to Toronto coming up on Saturday.

As we gear up for this evening’s 7:30 PM kickoff, hear from the opposition’s side of things with our prematch 3 Questions, this time with Sam Lattof of The Blazing Musket:

Hoyos. Hopeless on the goal.

If youโ€™re going to come off your line there you HAVE to get the ball. Either be decisive or stay on your line.

He is so awful.

VAMOS ATLANTA

What a refreshing half of football.

4-1 Revs win over ATL UTD……Carles Gil will score at least once & I can see us ending with a record of 1-1-12 (EX: W-D-L) by the WC because all of those teams are more fluid in their attack and sound in their defending…..starting with Exhibit A tonight against the New England Revolution and our whack attack. Oh yeah and as a trip down memory lane coinciding with this season has anyone else realized that for the past 2-3 seasons (including this season) we have won only 1 game in March, then proceed to go on a winless streak stretching into late April – May?

Haha……if you watched the game and saw all the empty seats which by the way the commentators on Apple TV also mentioned, then you see my point with this team and how pathetic they are. They (the 5-stripes) don’t even have hope when they have a 1 goal lead let alone when they are down 1 (or) more goals to win let alone try and tie if a team comes back to get the equalizer. As a final note, you do realize (or) maybe you don’t that this is the same organization (ATL UTD where the front office basically robbed STMs of $ rewarding them with having the nerve to raise season ticket prices for the past 2 seasons when the team was garbage and not even halfway decent.
