How to watch Day 6 of the World Cup: Mbappe, Messi, Haaland, plus Iraq and Jordan’s debut

If you’re looking for star power, Day 6 of the 2026 World Cup has plenty of it, along with a pair of teams making their respective debuts.

Things start with one of the favorites to win in France, which faces a country that was once under French rule before gaining independence in 1960. That’s Senegal, which is in its fourth World Cup. Kylian Mbappe’s side, who won it all in 2018 and finished runner-up in 2022, look to match Brazil’s feat in becoming just the second country to appear in three straight World Cup finals.

Brazil’s also one of two countries to win back-to-back World Cups โ€” Italy is the other โ€” and Argentina will hope to join that list as it faces Algeria in Kansas City. The headline here will be Lionel Messi in his last World Cup, with La Albiceleste hoping to send the superstar out on top. Algeria is back in the tournament for the first time since 2014, when it reached the Round of 16 in Brazil before falling to eventual champion Germany in extra time.

While this will be Messiโ€™s sixth World Cup, Erling Haaland is finally making his tournament debut as Norway takes on Iraq in Foxborough. As special as it may be for Haaland and a Norwegian side that hasn’t made the field since 1998, that pales in comparison to the feelings in the Iraqi camp ahead of their first-ever tournament appearance.

The nightcap takes us to California, as Austria faces another World Cup debutant in Jordan. Austria’s last trip to the tournament was in 1998’s event in France when it went out in the group stage.
