Sunday’s World Cup Round of 32 curtain-raiser between Canada and South Africa wasn’t the most exciting, but one moment of magic from Stephen Eustáquio in second-half stoppage time meant the CanMNT were first to punch their ticket to the final 16. On Monday, three more teams will join them as three matches make up the day’s slate, headlined by an appealing matchup between the Netherlands and Morocco in Monterrey. Meanwhile, Miguel Almirón and Paraguay are in New England to face Germany, while Vinícius Júnior and Brazil take on Japan in Houston.

How Brazil got to the Round of 32

After drawing Morocco 1-1 in its first group stage match, Brazil trounced its next two opponents — Haiti and Scotland — by identical 3-0 scorelines en route to winning Group C. Viníciús Junior, in his second World Cup, has four goals and an assist, while Matheus Cunha has three goals of his own. Not bad.

How Japan got to the Round of 32

The Samurai Blue ended up playing the Netherlands to a 2-2 draw thanks to a late equalizer to start group action, then blitzed Tunisia 4-0 through a brace from Eredivisie scoring leader Ayase Ueda. They then drew Sweden 1-1 to wrap up Group F in second place.

Germany vs. Paraguay, 4:30 p.m. ET, Foxborough | Winner faces France/Sweden winner July 4 in Philadelphia

How Germany got to the Round of 32

Group E’s winner saw six different players score — including a brace by Kai Havertz — in a 7-1 romp over Curaçao on June 14, then needed two goals from Deniz Undav (68′, 90+4′) to get past Ivory Coast 2-1. Its lone loss in the group, 2-1 to Ecuador, was a dead rubber that didn’t affect the standings.

How Paraguay got to the Round of 32

Paraguay’s road was bumpy. It was crushed 4-1 by the United States but saw Matías Galarza’s second-minute golazo stand up in a 1-0 win over Türkiye that saw Miguel Almirón sent off in first-half stoppage time for covering his mouth. It then drew Australia 0-0 to claim one of the eight third-place spots in the knockout stage.

Netherlands vs. Morocco, 9 p.m. ET, Monterrey | Winner faces Canada July 4 in Houston

How the Netherlands got to the Round of 32

Following their previously mentioned 2-2 draw against Japan, Oranje, Group F’s winner outscored its next two opponents by an 8-2 margin. Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo each had two goals in a 5-1 win over Sweden, while an own goal and Brobbey’s third of the tournament paced a 3-1 victory over Tunisia.

How Morocco got to the Round of 32

The second-place finisher in Group C didn’t drop a match after drawing Brazil in East Rutherford. The Atlas Lions only needed Ismael Saibari’s second-minute tally as they held Scotland without a shot on goal in a 1-0 win before a 4-2 victory over Haiti.
