Four matches in, and the World Cup Round of 32 hasn’t disappointed. Monday started with Gabriel Martineilli’s late winner for Brazil over Japan before Paraguay’s shock victory over Germany in penalties. The night ended with Morocco picking up a stoppage-time equalizer against the Netherlands through Issa Diop’s first senior international goal before the Atlas Lions won a penalty shootout of their own.
Tuesday brings three more appealing matchups, with Erling Haaland and Norway, Kylian Mbappé and France, and tournament co-hosts Mexico all in action. It can’t be better than what we’ve already had, right?

How Ivory Coast got to the Round of 32
Ivory Coast, which finished second in Group E, needed some drama on its side to beat Ecuador 1-0 as Amad Diallo scored in the 90th minute. After being on the other end of dramatics in a 2-1 loss to Germany that featured a stoppage-time winner from Deniz Undav, it defeated lowly Curaçao 2-0 behind Nicolas Pépé’s brace.
How Norway got to the Round of 32
Norway got off to a roaring start as Erling Haaland scored twice in his World Cup debut during a 4-1 win over Iraq, before bagging another brace in a 3-2 win over Senegal. He didn’t play the final group stage match against France, a 4-1 loss.

How France got to the Round of 32
France have looked like the favorites so far in this World Cup, outscoring opponents 10-2 en route to first place in Group I. It topped Senegal 3-1 behind a Kylian Mbappé brace before he posted another double in a 3-0 win over Iraq. Ousmane Dembélé took the mantle in the group finale, scoring three in a 4-1 win over a Haaland-less Norway.
How Sweden got to the Round of 32
Yasin Ayari’s brace helped Sweden capture a 5-1 win over Tunisia to start play in Group F. That was its only win as it absorbed a 5-1 loss to the Netherlands and drew Japan 1-1. Four points, though, were enough to put it into the knockout stage as a third-place team.

How Mexico got to the Round of 32
El Tri not only won all three of their group stage matches to take Group A, but also joined Spain as the only teams not to concede. It started with a 2-0 victory over South Africa that ended 10v9, before a 1-0 win over South Korea and a 3-0 victory over Czechia.
How Ecuador got to the Round of 32
Ecuador, the third-place team from Group E, followed up its loss to Ivory Coast with a 0-0 draw against Curaçao, coming away stymied by Eloy Room’s World Cup record-tying 15 saves. It picked up its lone win of the group stage (2-1) against a German side with nothing to play for after having already won the group.
