How Spain got to the final
Spain have conceded only one goal this tournament: Charles de Ketelaere’s equalizer in the quarterfinal against Belgium. It hasn’t been the most attractive bit of football or the most thrilling, but all that matters is that La Roja is in the final. They’ve knocked out four straight UEFA foes (3-0 Austria, 1-0 Portugal, 2-1 Belgium, 2-0 France) and now turn their attention to the biggest team in CONMEBOL in search for a first World Cup trophy since 2010.
How Argentina got to the semifinal
Remember that bit about Argentina having yet to win a game the easy way in the knockout stage? That continued in the semifinals in Atlanta. It trailed England 1-0 until the 85th minute, when a stunning goal from (guess who?) Enzo Fernández knotted things up in the 85th minute. Then, in the second minute of stoppage time, Lautaro Martínez put an end to things off an assist from (who else?) Lionel Messi to send La Albiceleste to the final. This group has “team of destiny” written all over it, to be honest.
