Could trouble be brewing on Atlanta’s potential deal with Swiss striker Breel Embolo? Reports emerged yesterday from French outlet L’Équipe that Embolo’s side rejected the contract offered by the Five Stripes, and that the Rennes striker is now in talks with newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town.
Things aren’t over yet, and Atlanta United could still land Embolo as their newest Designated Player. That said, this is a sudden turnaround from what seemed to be an all but assured deal, and would be a massive blow to lose out on yet another target for the front office. But… could it be an agent at work to get even more out of Atlanta for his client? We’ll wait and see what the outcome is.
A signing that *is* confirmed for the Atlanta United organization is Andrew Jardines, who joins the 2’s after his graduation from the ATL UTD academy. The 18 year old midfielder has become a mainstay in the 2’s midfield this summer, and now is signed on through the 2027-28 MLS Next Pro season.All this comes outside of Atlanta’s preparations for a midweek match tomorrow up in the Twin Cities against Minnesota United.
