Tyler, Tommy, and Sydney sat down with former Atlanta United captain and 2018 MLS Cup winner Michael Parkhurst to chat about the Five Stripes, Beyond Goals Mentoring, his new USL Championship team Rhode Island FC, and more!
The conversation focused around Atlanta United’s defensive woes, and how they were recently bounced from the Leagues Cup competition. Parky provided some insight from his days as a center back to help listeners put a finger on just what is going wrong with the defensive shape of this team this year.
Also, if you haven’t heard, Beyond Goals Mentoring is a fairly new venture started by Parky and Greg Garza. They provide mentorship to young and aspiring soccer players to help build confidence, manage stress, and so much more, and also recently entered into an agreement with the Atlanta United Academy to help mentor them, as well.
Parky has also been working on his new club, Rhode Island FC, which will begin play in USL Championship in 2024. They’ll be diving into their new stadium in Pawtucket in 2025, establishing the first pro soccer team in the state.
