The first outgoing transfer for Atlanta United this offseason is a big one.
Bartosz Slisz has secured a transfer to Brøndby and will sign a contract with the Danish side through 2029, Scarves and Spikes has learned. Bakoskaut and Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk were the first to report the news. The US$3.5 million deal is the second-biggest in Brøndby history.
It brings to an end Slisz’s two-year tenure with Atlanta United. Slisz arrived from Legia Warsaw ahead of the 2024 season for a reported US$3.5 million transfer fee. He eventually became an invaluable part of Atlanta’s midfield in 2025 even in the midst of the worst season in club history.
From a wider lens view, Slisz’s eyes are set on a potential World Cup appearance. Poland will have to go through UEFA’s qualifying play-off, beginning in March, if it is to secure a spot in the final tournament for a third consecutive time.
It’s a move that will release some much-needed funds for Chris Henderson. And it could precipitate further incoming (and, perhaps, outgoing) transfers this offseason as Atlanta United gears up for the preseason.
The club has already added goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos on a free transfer while bringing in defender Tomás Jacob from Necaxa. Atlanta is also reportedly close to signing San Lorenzo left back Elías Báez. But there are still more holes to fill, primarily at wing, one of many Atlanta United problem areas in 2025.

[…] Bartosz Slisz leaving Atlanta United, joining Brøndby on $3.5 million transfer […]
very good move. he was a decent (sometimes stellar, many times leaky) young player that probably still has upside. new manager and selling high. that’s good business.
wish him the best.
Echo that. Wish him the best. I had mentioned a couple months ago that i would not be surprised if he was the one to go. Despite having a better season than most, or maybe because he had a better season than most.
A little surprised about Slisz, but also thinking about it, maybe not? I always thought he was more of an 8 rather than a 6, a spot that’s pretty full. Compared to our other CM/CDM options, Slisz probably fits Tata’s vision the least (other than maybe Muyumba, but I’d argue he’d fit better in a different position further upfield), but also has plenty of market to be sold somewhere else and be very happy.
Agreed – I’m guessing that Tata has a CDM in mind and we’ll hear about that in the coming days – and probably the sale of Saba and Miranchuk (or maybe the buy-out of Miranchuk or transfer to another team ala DC United’s transfer of a designated player to us). With practice starting, I’m beginning to get excited about the season.
He was on the longest contract we had, so I didn’t have him on my bingo card to be sold/transferred this soon but it makes sense. I’m starting to think our CF’s corp is set but nearly every other piece of the pie is on the list. RB feels set (Jacob/Hernandez), CB’s feel set, GK feels set, now it’s just about finding a proper winger set (I don’t think Tata is going to see either Miggy or Miranchuk as wingers) and go from there. Which means Saba and Miranchuk could be 2 more on the chopping block with the latter being one that can only happen if they have a buyer.
still need a 3rd GK, need more CB depth (at least one more), with Slisz gone, we definitely need at least 1 DCM
The 3rd GK could/may come from the 2’s but i’d argue 2 is plenty for the start of the season. We’ve got 3 main CB’s and 1-2 that can fit in when needed, with one on loan that could leave in June. Our main midfield seems pretty full, but maybe one more senior guy wouldn’t hurt. We definitely need a set of destroyer 6’s because Slisz was about all we had and I would argue he was a decent 6, maybe a pseudo 8, but not a destroyer 6.
Besides the need for strong wingers that can take on defenders 1v1, that DCM role is probably coming next with a few people in mind. If you’ve been following the rumors, most of them have been around CB’s, FB’s and that defensive midfield, and nearly all coming out of south america.
I would still say that having 3 GKs is pretty standard in pro soccer everywhere. Also the downside of all our international players is that a lot of them also play for their respectable national teams, so we definitely need more CBs. Remember, Juan Berrocal is only on loan until the summer, so depending on how well he plays, he might not be retained when the loan ends. Assuming we play 2 CBs, we would ideally have 5 CBs on the roster.
I feel like a lot of people are forgetting how good Jay Fortune was before his injury.
He’s definitely earned his right to be on the 1st team field, but i’m not sure i’d say he should be our main starter. Great depth and support piece though. Kind of like Reilly, well deserved time, just not that senior guy either.
thank you! when he was healthy, i think he was the clear choice over muyumba or slisz. i would be very excited to see a fortune/reilly pairing in the midfield.
my guess is that tata still has his sights set on a CDM wrecking ball, but fortune/reilly wouldn’t disappoint me at all.
I like Fortune better as an 8 than 6. But you’d need to move Alexei for that to sort out.
He also did yeoman’s work as a spot starter at LW. Reilly needs to prove his case still. But Fortune should have earned the right to be played off the pitch rather than having to play himself back onto it.
Alexei ain’t an 8 either, he’s more of a second Striker, à la Mueller.
He can do both, but feel like his better games were when he was playing the 8. Though it’s hard to tell what is “good, better, best” from the 2025 season when you’re already playing garbage ball.
I’d argue the opposite. He made a lot of mistakes or was invisible as an 8. His best has been when he’s inside or close to the box making the incisive assist or shot on goal. Think 2024, first 2-3 games of 2025, and the highlights of when he pulled a wondergoal out of nowhere to make us lose by less.
The problem is that his best position doesn’t exist in the current meta, to borrow a video-game term. He’s not a primary striker, and he’s not a traditional 10, and he’s too slow to be a normal winger. He’s the raumdeuter between all three, but you need a team dedicated to it and making the accurate pass in order for him to be effective. We had neither last year.
Thumbs up for “lose by less” 😂
not going to lie, I was proud of coming up with that one!
In that “where does he fit” mold, Miranchuk kind of reminds me of Pity. They clearly have some great attacking vision and ability, but they do not really fit the mold of what you need out of a DP CAM in this league. They don’t really fit on the wing, and they aren’t a primary striker. Miranchuk as an 8 is not a good fit, either. His defensive effort just isn’t there, and we have/had a ton of guys to play CM. All of our central mids seem to play better in an 8 mold than as a 6. All of Slisz, Alzate, Fortune, Muyumba, and Reilly seem to not really be true CDMs. No defensive hounds, no destroyers, no one you can drop deep between CBs as FBs get up field.
The sale of Slisz makes sense from that perspective, and the only reason I wasn’t surprised at this sale is that I had some inside info a few months ago he’d likely be on the move. We have a glut of guys doing the same thing and Slisz could be sold for about what we paid, while freeing up some substantial cap space to address weaker parts of the roster.
yeah…he’s a natural 8 to me. alexei (imo) could still have value on the wing, if he can be coached/managed into it. i would love to see him out there and a reilly/fortune/miggy midfield.
Yeah, I’d like to see a destroyer 6 (great for Reilly if he can fill that, it seems like he had the potential), the 8 role shared by Fortune and Alzate, and the 10 with Miggy, maybe Muyumba as backup.
I don’t think Miranchuk makes sense in usual Tataball, but if he were to be played I’d like to see him as a SS or inside forward/winger depending on the rest of the team’s setup.
So I guess Will Reilly will be our main DCM?
