For the first time since the 2024 Copa America, the United States men’s national team will take the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as it faces Belgium, ranked No. 9 in the FIFA world rankings.
The Red Devils have a massive chip on their shoulder going into the 2026 World Cup after a shock group stage exit in Qatar in 2022. It’s not as big as the one the U.S. has, but another crash-out won’t go down well for a program that, in 2018, finished third place. That’s especially considering the window of opportunity that’s closing for a handful of players: Kevin De Bruyne is 34, Romelu Lukaku (who didn’t make the trip to the U.S.) is 32, and Thibault Courtois (also not with Belgium today) is 33.

USMNT vs. Belgium head-to-head
The USMNT and Belgium are meeting for the third time. Their most recent meeting was in the 2014 World Cup’s Round of 16, a 2-1 win for the Red Devils after extra time that saw Lukaku and De Bruyne break a scoreless deadlock in the extra session. The only other meeting? In the year 1930, a 3-0 U.S. win in a World Cup group stage match in Uruguay.

Shambolic
I know the players are excited for these uniforms, but man with Belgium wearing a white adjacent uniform, it is so hard to distinguish on the tv. Close up shots look great, but zoomed out the stripes blend into a near white.
Will be there, looking forward to it. Disappointed Miles Robinson won’t be playing.
