The last time the United States men’s national team played a World Cup match on American soil was July 4, 1994, a 1-0 loss to Brazil at Stanford Stadium. Thirty-two years later, the USMNT begins its 2026 World Cup journey at the palatial SoFi Stadium against Paraguay. After all the hype and discussion going into this one, all that’s left is to kick a ball.
For the Americans, their goal (no pun intended) is to start on the right footing in front of what should be a rowdy home crowd. But how will La Albirroja, featuring Miguel Almiron, fare in their first World Cup appearance since 2010? (Of course, there was plenty of tension the last time the two teams met.
